I'd like to buy or trade for some gallium metal if anyone has some. I'm not looking for anything more than maybe 20 grams.

Try Unitednuclear.com, they have quite a few of the elements available to collectors.
 
thanks. I knew about that site. they charge alot for hazmat fees. there's a place that will ship 15g for 50$ but I figure I'd try here 1st.

Your source is much more economical, they have the best price I have seen on magnesium as well.
 
Hey Jeff, did you ever end up buying any gallium?

I just got 40 grams of the stiff on eBay today. It's pretty cool to play around with.

Was you're nice and pure? Mine had a ton of grey gallium oxide building up on the outside.

It seems like the oxide layer will dissolve away in hot water and leave behind the pure gallium, add ice before you take it out of the water. Its a good way to get rid of the rust. Even when it's solid it still interacts with the air and turns blue. It looks so cool! lol

Yeah mine had an oxide layer on it too. It wasn't too bad only a little bit. I really haven't had much time to play with It. Maybe ill see what I can do with it tonight.
 
Here's a photo of my gallium. I did have alot more oxide than I thought and there's still a decent amount in my gallium. I think water causes the gallium to oxidize faster because of impurities but I could be mistaken. There is also some crystallization in mine :)

Here is a real funky crystal I managed to get. Looks real neet! I supercooled the gallium and poked it to cause it to crystallize.

Yeah I noticed that too. It's best to use distilled water.

Nice looking crystal. Gallium has a very unique crystal structure.
If you put a dab of it on some aluminum it'll alloy with it and make a very weak "mushy" like alloy. Then if you put that alloy in water you create hydrogen gas as the aluminum bonds to oxygen and releases hydrogen. Also pure gallium reforms, almost like a catalyst, although it is contaminated with aluminum a bit.

Hey guys I know this is a 2 year old post but Im also a big fan of metals. And I just wanted to shere a little tip with you.

Look gallium is really sticky but if you get a little plastic bottle and apply a layer of car wax. Gallium will stop sticking to the plastic. The more layers you do to the bottle the less will stick.

After applaying the wax into the bottle let it dry and removit with a soft cloth.

Sergi- Thanks for the awesome tip on the car wax. I tried it last week. I have a pound and a half of Gallium. Works like a charm! Fun stuff to mess with,but a pain to store since it wants to stick to everything.
