DDL's circuit can take any input voltage right? up to 50v if I remember?


So running a bluray off of a 12v power supply should be fine?

Just remember that (Input Voltage - laser diode forward voltage drop - ~3V) * current in Amps = the power that the 317 must waste as heat.

Yes, the only catch is that the higher the voltage differential across the regulator, the more heat it will dissipate, so you might need a heatsink.
