If I was to build an RGB scanner, would 50mW of green be worth while ? or would I be better with >100mW ?

Depends on how much power the red and blue lasers are. The more power the better, but you need to keep the ratio's in mind, which I believe is 1:2:4 Green Blue Red

Well 300mw blue is gonna be quite expensive, and you could possibly build the 600mw red by combining 2 16X diodes or somehting.

300mW from a 16X ?? would I not need more like 2 long die open cans to get that power?

Oh whatever, might just go with 100mW, using 150mW green according to the ratios would give me a 1.05W laser scanner , which is a tad much for just now, anyway, I could always upgrade later if need be .

Price as it stands now, is between £2200 and £2400. thats only with 100mW green, 200mw blue and 450mw red . and then the DAC and galvos etc etc .

Sure aint, now to think of ways I can make some money ....

Make some nice DIYs and sell them off ??

Its not the money that would bother me though, it's obtaining that money.

Yeah same deal here. It's hard getting money for this stuff when your only 14, I can only get a job in about 3 months.

I'm the same, I cant get a job till november, and it would take me till next year to get one, as im only 14.  I may try and build a DIY and if it goes well then I'll sell it, and if theres enough interest, just keep doing that

That could atleast pay for some of the parts, and my birthday and christmas are coming up, so I'll get money and stuff then, that'll help more.

So, can you use a DAC set up to program the required effects into the board it's self, so a PC isn't required on site?

lol, I'm still so confused about the DAC/DMX stuff. I just can't get my head around it...

So lets back up a bit. If I bought the ScanPro20 set: http://lasershowparts.com/store/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=67 what would I need so I could connect it up to my computer and make some animations? And what about just general beam effects?

THANK YOU! I've been trying to find that link for weeks now. xD

Back on topic... I have no idea. Ask Andy. :p

Simple answer.

DMX is for controlling the patterns ALREADY PROGRAMMED INTO THE BOARD.

a DAC is used for creating your own graphics/animations/text whatever.

Ah, okay. That's a good explanation :)

So what's the cheapest way to create your own animations? Say, with a ScanPro20?
