Hey dave- would you ever do a single AAA pen host? I think I saw a green one on DX a while back-it would be a bit more convenient and really cool without the spacer, IMO. I have a thing for smaller pen hosts :D
That's a cool idea. I am interested myself in trying that.

Could you give us an idea of how long your laser lasts on one fully charged 10440? Does output ramp down from the beginning of the battery charge, or does the output remain virtually constant until the battery gets near the end, in which it then plummets in output?

Also, I too am curious how you set up the switch inside. Could you possibly show a photo of your switch arrangement on the driver?

I have not kept track of the run time. I play with it every night, but not for a long time. It gets about 4-5 runs a night. It probably has ~30 minutes on the battery. I have not recharged it yet.

With the driver it has, it should not "ramp down. When the battery hits 2.5V the driver will either shut down or begin to blink.

The construction is pretty straightforward.

The driver is inside the AixiZ module.
The body is the negative path.
The positive lead comes out the back.
The switch is part of a salvaged driver W/switch from a green pen laser.
The electronics (except the switch) have been stripped from the salvaged driver.

The front of the driver is cut down so that when placed against the rear of the AixiZ module, the switch is centered under the button opening

The positive lead is soldered to the front leg of the switch
The spring contact is soldered to the rear leg of the switch
The switch board (cut down driver) is hot glued to the rear of the AixiZ module
The module is then inserted into the host with the switch under the button

Voila!

So there's only one lead connected to the switchboard correct?
