:o :o :o that pic is big, although it will be hard to see it if it was smaller, sorry.

Looks like inver board issues :( If it is under warranty, take it in while you can stil see the screen at all !

Pixels normally go black when they die, not white, have you tried dropping it from a high point that normally works ;D dont try that. take it in, dont think its to serious

Waht does it have to do with the inverter board?

Anyways, my guess would be that the connection for that colum is jutz broken. Because they're all off(on), not just one pixel. Also, if one of those nice little IC were broken, it'd be a block of colums gone, not one.

If you open it, my suggestion would be to try and press where the FFC connects to the panel, ant where it connects to the controller board.

well actually its a block of 6 pixels wide, so either 6 connections failed at the same time, or something else died?

It is the inverter board. Anyone wanna bet ? I have worked on laptops since the "luggable" - and if you do not know what teh luggable was, then suffice it to say that I know a tiny bit about laptops ;-) 99% of the time, when your inverter board blows - you have to replace the LCD at the same time, as it damages the LCD in the process of letting out the magic smoke - sends a surge or something to he LCD, pop, pop, pop...all bad sounds :( Anywho - take it in for repair, they will quote you labor, plus the LCD, and the inverter board.

SenKat, I will take you up on that bet. [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif]

All the inventor board does is supply power to the bulb. I would bet that things either needs a new ribbon cable, or maybe the cable can be reseated if it is not broken. I doubt there is anything wrong with the actual LCD panel.

ok, i am now taking bets. we are starting off at $10. anybody wanna raise? :D

best advice would be to take it in somewhere

something like that would be caused by a problem in the ribbon cables that connect the LCD panel to the signal board, not the inverter

I have broken pins off my cable before and it took out more than just a line 6 pixels wide.

SenKat, I do trust you that you know your stuff about laptops, but the bit I know about LCDs tells me that the inverter just creates the HV for the CCRTs. So it might be that a surge killed something in the controller electronics, too, but the inverter is not the only problem then and not the reason these pixels lack (i.e., exchanging the inverter won't fix it).

Dunno, buy a new one and send me the old one for "proper dispose" ;)

well it still works fine, and i have a secondary monitor here anyway, it's just that i have a white and red line down my laptop screen! i don't really feel like screwing it up, and will get it fixed eventually, but it seems to be fine atm, the line doesn't bother me to much.

Well, it seems we need to pass the hat to get Things to take that sucker in for a proper look see ! LOL I'll donate $10.00 - anyone else wanna donate to things to get it fixed so I can satisfy my curiosity on what the problem is ?

Things - you need to call around and find out what an estimate would cost for repair. Then post back here - we can setup a "fund" if there are enough folks that are interested in proving me wrong (I am THAT sure ! LOL) Not being snobby about it, far from it, I love to be proven wrong !!! I am up for the challenge though :)

WOW you are great greg! i will have a call around and see what the repair price would be like, hopefully not to much! :D
thanks guys!

LOL i just noticed in that pic above, i made my traditional spelling mistake of "didoes"! ;D ;D ;D
