UFO or 445 laser?

Well yeah, that is what I was going to et, at. I was going to see how far these lasers put out over 5mW. But yeah, it is technically illegal to shine anything over 5mW, but everyone does it.

It's like smoking pot, everybody does it and talks about it, but nobody but the trolls pick a fight about it.

No, it's not illegal to shine anything over 5mW. FDA approved lasers are perfectly legal to operate, as long as you play by their rules.

How am I trolling you dude? I was merely trying to correct your ignorance on a topic that could potentially lead to trouble for you and/or an unknowing copycat.

You don't know what you're talking about, and you should stop trying to act like you do. Now.

Depends on the country you are in. No sense fighting in a multinational forum. Here in Canada our politicians don't give us any trouble unless someone waves a picket sign.
At that point, the entire governing system panics and everything is thrown into disarray.

....Kinda like Australia....

It's obvious he's in the USA as well as I.

Woah, slow your roll man, I wasn't calling you a troll.

What I was trying to say, is that MOST OF THE TIME, the FAA doesn't really care as long as you are not under Class B,C,D Airspace, or pointing at planes.

You're missing my point.

What's legal, and what's enforced, are two different things. However, mfo is correct. When someone asks, the best answer to give is the legal one, which in this case is that it's not legal to shine a laser over 5mW into the air without notice to the FAA.

This hobby already has(and will probably have many more) problems due to people being stupid with lasers. There is no point in giving advice that can get people in trouble and spur even more restrictions.

Aliens with lasers duh :shhh:
I cant believe no one had said this ....... I'm starting to wonder if it was an alien LPF member trying to cover their tracks? Misdirection???

Heh. I'm not surprised, though I do have to admit I would have never guessed that's what it was. Certainly a cool idea. I'll have to try it with one of my heli's sometime.

It is a UFO. They are often around here in Austria.

Yeah it´s our typical South-Föhn cloud, the altocumulus lenticularis, also called UFO-cloud here. Saw some really nice one 2 weeks ago.
