Two dots?

The laser I ordered came into today, and in about 20 seconds of use the dots split into two. Any reason why and can I fix it?

(Green laser just awkwardly holding glasses in front of the camera so you can see)

This is normal from low quality 532s. It's called mode hopping and there's nothing you can do about it. :)
 
Some of these have multiple lines. Up to six that I've seen. I measured one that had four lines on my spectrometer and they ran from 532nm to 541nm.
 
That output would drive me nuts even on a cheap laser but yes, mode hopping as I have never seen in person.

Yes, it's mode hopping. If you have variable power laser, change the power. My 100 mW greenie does the same thing at low power and when cold, after I increase it it switches to TEM00. Try new batteries (fully charged). Try laser in different temperatures (reasonably - to prevent moisture or overheating). Changing these factors might help.

Well that sucks. As far as I can tell it isn't a variable power laser and switching the batteries didn't seem to change it so I guess I'll just have to deal with it. Also, ty for the rep they were cheap and I was paranoid so why not. :D
