Turning laser on while the glow cap is on it...

I've been wondering if turning my blu-ray on while the glow cap is on could damage it. It sounds like a bad idea but it would come in handy if I needed a flash light. ::)

I've read about peoples lasers dying when they shine the DIRECTLY at mirrors because it reflects right back at the diode. Could the glow cap do the same thing when it gets "charged" by the blu-ray?

No, probably not, the glow cap is not a mirror. The mirror effect is when a collimated beam goes back through the lens and gets focused to a tiny spot on the dye, which gets blasted with a significant percentage of optical power. This increase in power is enough to cause COD.Besides, I often write on my GITD paper with my bluray at point blank and nothing happens. :-/

the cap absorbs all the 405nm

i do this all the time with my personal build set at 190ma and have yet to have a problem.

hey guys, where does everyone get those? I'd like to just use them to cover the lens from dust in the air, and color code my diy lasers.

thanks.

they are found at DealExtreme. SKU 5714 if I'm not mistaken for the glow-in-the-dark ones.

You have to cut off the little "nub" that is on the inside as well.

Peace,
