turning a 532nm into 808nm laser ?

Im currently having a low powered 532nm green laser,but unfortunately it's very low power until it won's be able to burn thin plastic,until the focus lens is removed and plastic were put right infront of diode.

As i know,a low power dpss green laser has a high powered 808nm diode behind it as there were great drop of efficiency when pumping the wavelength.

So,im thinking of removing the pumping crystal infromt of the 808nm diode,and use that laser as a high powered IR laser,would this idea work?or it's impossible?if it's possible,how much will the output power increase?assume original output power = 5mW,and would current existing focus lens suitable to focus the IR diode?

Usually 1Watt is needed for 100-200mW green for cheap pens. You can remove all the crystals for just 808nm beam but it can't focused nicely because the lenses are meant for green laser assembly.
 
Not only is taking the pump out a terrible idea. Its incredibly dangerous. Taking the pump out will increase your output but the 808nm light will not focus correctly with the existing lens assembly. Plus you would probably end up with some eye damage as the light is nearly invisible.

Be VERY careful when testing High Powered 808nm IR Lasers.
They are next to invisible and can blind you as easy as a Visible
Laser of the same output power.

Use/purchase appropriate Laser Safety Goggles/Glasses before
you need to buy a white cane...

i'll sure use a safety google......also i'll track where my IR dot go and how it's focus with my hand phone !
 
Do use goggles, and a camera to see what the IR is doing. You will need to get lenses coated for 808nm, or you can get away with a lens for red. The head of the laser will have to be rebuilt to accomodate the new lens. It is very likely that you will not get a clean proper beam as these are usually bar-line emitters. You will get a close range burning laser that should focus to a point 10-20 cm from the laser. Be very careful with these IR lasers.

That looks like a standard aixiz housing compatible lens. It is 9mm with an M0.5 pitch thread and has the coating for 808nm. The price seems OK, so this lens is worth a try. I've seen a couple of dead green pens get converted to an IR burner. Usually the green module is removed from the pen (epoxies can make this challenging ...) and an aixiz module with IR diode and lens is substituted. Getting a driver for the IR diode that fits inside the aixiz housing is a bonus. Remember that IR diodes are usually case positive, so you may need to isolate the laser head, or use a negative side driver.
