Hello,

I have been lurking here for a while, and thought I would finally post.
I have found this forum to be a great resource. I work for a company that recycles gasoline, I run the shop and design and fabricate all our machinery and equipment. So I have access to it for hobbies. I just need to talk my boss into a lathe, we have everything but one. Maybe that wee need a nice HeNe for research purposes of course :D

Welcome to LPF, dyethor. Hope you enjoy your stay. I know I've learned a bunch in just the few weeks I've been here.

Be sure to read the stickies for some of the more important stuff and don't forget to use the search option to find stuff you are looking for.

Howdy and welcom to the forum :wave
Have fun and be safe ;)

Where on earth do you find gasoline to recycle ?

Thanks for the kind welcome. I don't read the generic etiquette stickies. Only tutorials. I always use the search button, I know how it feels to have a influx of new people who all ask the same questions without ever using the search option.

For the gasoline recycling.
Every junk yard gets new vehicles all the time. Most vehicles still have all their fluids in them including gas. In the U.S. as far as I know have to evacuate all toxic fluids as per the EPA, so they don't leak out in the environment. We make a machine that uses a big spike to punch a hole in the gas tank and suck out the gas. It sends it to a processing table that filters and sends it into 2000gallon tank. Every week we have drivers that pick it up. Our trucks pump it from the tank through another conditioning system. When our trucks get full we sell it back gas stations.

The gas is filtered through a 1/2 micron filter which is to aviation standards. However The octane is usually always around 88.9, but we sell it as 87.

As long as people keep wrecking cars I will have a job lol. :)

man, there is always a way to make a buck. good job!!

Welcome to the forums.

Happy Lasing
Michael

Hey welcome aboard if you have questions don't be afraid to ask(after using the search).

Thanks.
One question that I haven't seen answered. How am I to deal with all these new projects, I need one of each color wavelength laser, and gas lasers as well. All so cool.
:eg:

Thanks for the link. Nice host I might hit you up for one of those in a little while.
Its not a time issue its that there is just sooo many different things to build lol.
I'm more of a DIY guy. So far I have designed and am awaiting delivery of some driver boards I designed nothing special. Ive been hitting up all the thrift shops looking for cheap donor drives, so far the majority have been ir diodes. Nothing special yet.

diodes are pretty cheap in price. you can get reds and violets for 10 bucks.

michael.

Yea I purchased a few. I have a 445 from a XJ-A140 projector. 2 405's from a blue ray. A LG 22x dvd burner on the way to harvest.
There is something about harvesting parts that's more fun than buying just the diode. :)
