Thor H2 review

OK, I'll bear that in mind.
Out of interest, which thor did you guys buy originally, I assume it was the 1.5w model? How much was that new? And what's it worth to buy now, in comparison?
 





Mine measured ~1.7 watts at full power, but I didn't buy it. It was sent to me with batteries if I would review it. It cost me $20.00 for shipping. And, that was before this particular laser was released for sale to the public. It also has a low power setting that is <500 mW and is accomplished by using a PWM at 500 Hz and a 50% duty cycle.
 
I'll have to look up what the component parts would cost in the UK, but the ready made Zeus doesn't seem too bad once you factor in the batteries, they are about £10 ($13) each alone.
The other thing that concerns me, is those glasses it comes with. I'm somehow dubious of them being up to the job?

The cheap goggles that are thrown in with these types of lasers cost about $3.00 in reality, so I wouldn't consider them adequate for an accidental strike by this laser. If they don't cost you extra just use them for very low power blue and green lasers. They will likely be red in color.
 
They appear to be red yes. What would you suggest for high power then? I hear eagles are good?
 
Yes. You should check out Survival Lasers for Eagle goggles as I believe they have some of the lowest prices around. I've had all the goggles I need for years now and haven't shopped for any in a long time.
 
If you are talking about the ones that come with the laser I would get the red lensed as they might have a little better visibility especially if the green ones are very dark. They also cover the 520nm to 532nm lasers a "little". Not getting into the IR factor.
Do upgrade though to a survival pair when you can. Iv'e tested a few of these cheap glasses and the ones I got were ok but they still fall under the "they are better than nothing" catagory and have seen tests where they fail miserably as there's no quality control..
When you do receive the package I would do a little test on the glasses on side lens for at least 30 seconds. Again do upgrade soon...

I do actually have a pair of UK military issue laser goggles for my 532nm ones, they are very good. Doubt they'd be safe for a 445 though?

Edit: Actually I just got them out, they're marked "general purpose laser goggle", they have a gold-bronze reflective coating on the outside, and to look through them gives an orange colour view. Also I just tried my 532 and 405nm pointers and it reduces both to a very faint yellow dot.

Any name or other markings. Is the dot your view with the glasses on?

Looking at there sight they look hardcore at blocking 532nm and IR attacks but can't find any info as far as 445? They do say the whole laser color spectrum but just don't know?
 
Seems unlikely they would protect against 638nm to 660nm. Those are red colors, for those that don't know and we have cheap diodes that put out over 1 watt in 638nm. I would think they would work against 445nm, but how well is anyone's guess.

Hi All:

I bought a Dual Power 445 nm Thor H laser from LPS one year ago that was rated at 1 W & 3 W. I’ve measured its Low Power at 1.4 W and High Power at 2.6 W several times with my 5.2 Watt LaserBee AX3 LPM. It’s still very bright and performs well. It also is threaded for the Sanwu 3X Optical Expander, which greatly increases its range. Please remember that you MUST ALWAYS wear safety glasses for any laser with 1 W of optical power! Have fun and be laser safe. Take Care. :D

Saying that, I have only viewed a 50mW and 200mW 532nm and a 5mW 405nm through the goggles so far and they are very dim, especially the green. I know a few Watts is going to be in a different league, so will have to wait and see.
