This kinda thing makes me so mad!

I saw a high-powered green on an auction site (not eBay) with several bidders. Many of the bidders were leaving messages such as "I hope I win this!" etc.

One guy said he really wanted it for his son's 9th birthday. Now, perhaps he is a responsible father who will supervise his kid with it and there won't be any problem. (And maybe the boy is responsible and mature for his age.)

But more than likely he would just hand it over to the boy because it's "cool" and let him do whatever he wants with it.

I wish more people would understand that these things are NOT toys for little kids! In this case if a kid mishandled one, it's not the child who is acting stupid, it's the parent.

Even if he loses the auction he's probably just going to get one somewhere else. Sigh.

I completely agree. This is why I hate when I see anything with lasers on the news, even in a positive light. Like recently jayrob's phaser build was on msn, and good for him, but half of the comments were really dumb people who wanted to run around with it and shoot people.

Luckily, the other half was trying to convince the others that the video was obviously faked because lasers can't be strong, or blue. Which also got me a little angry, but at least I know that it keeps lasers out of the hands of idiots.

I wish it became standard to sell safety goggles and a small guide to laser safety with all class 4 handheld lasers. At least then you are providing them with everything they need to keep their stupidity in check. They would probably still ruin it for the rest of us though.

You're assuming a lot there LG. He might of just said that so people take pity on him, and let him win the bid. On the internet it very difficult to decipher what is real and what isnt.

After all, you could be a 70 year old man, and I could be a 13 year old girl.

That is indeed a bad situation. So irresponsible to get a laser this way. A broken leg or arm will heal in time and the lesson learned but a damage eye by a laser stays damage FOREVER.

Yeah, in my opinion it wouldn't, but just to avoid confusion, I want to make sure that we differentiate between standard and mandatory. If it was mandatory, they would just break the law (as they ALREADY are with selling lasers over 5mW). If it became standard, then people would naturally buy the laser with the safety precautions vs the ones without if they were priced the same. The people selling goggle-less lasers would lose money in sales and either live with that or include goggles themselves. It sounds good in theory, but maybe I'm just spouting nonsense. :tinfoil:
