Well I hate to admit this but tomorrow I have shoulder therapy and I plan a before stop at Walmart to see if they have one in green lol. Target is also right across the street and they are both only .5 miles from the therapy place.
Now that I think about it we have a few targets and Harbor Freights plus twice as many Walmarts within .5 hours from my house. Need some more razor blades, epoxy and free tape measure
Will hopefully get my 4 532nm Fastech modules by the end of the week and hopefully a couple will hit over 100mW. Reminds me that when I purchased them I bought the last 5V ones they had and they owe me one as I couldn't substitute it for a 3V one as they are also out of stock. They were hoping to get more in soon but weren't sure. Would really stink if they disappear for good as I have no idea where you can get such powerful units at so little cost.
Sorry if I'm rambling. I know I posted that somewhere else already but I just want everyone to know what to buy while they can because it's too hard finding such great bargains.
Some of you may remember when people went crazy for the 50mW versions they sold a while back when all of a sudden they went away. Truth is those put out about 80mW but these cheaper ones can be set higher than that a 1/3rd to 1/2 the time.
Anyways, if I were you I would keep this special unit and not think of selling it. Can't stand how great it looks in your pics. Still can't REP you yet
Thanks again Pete. I agree with you, I think I'll probably be keeping this for awhile.
It turned out pretty nice, and was a little more work than I thought it woud be, so it's a keeper.
I was originally going to just do a quick build, and hold a ra$$le for my 1000th post, with the donations going to LPF.
But with the holidays here, and another fundraiser taking place, I figured this wasn't the best time.
I do remember when we all were buying those modules from Fastech; although none of us as many as you.
Walmart didn't have any or I couldn't find it so ended up with a red one from Target as they didn't have any in green. They are now labeled as 70 lumens and thus the CT7 label on the side
Hmmmmm maybe I read something wrong as I looked at your first post and it doesn't say there's a green trimmed one. Looks like I need my strap wrenches to pop the top.
Having trouble even with my strap wrenches getting the top to loosen. Did you have to heat it?
Forget it. Got it but it is glued. Don't know if the CT6 was or not but I had to use serious torque to finally crack it loose.
I went back and looked, I didn't mention the green color ones until post #8, but that was back when I had originaly purchaced mine in earl fall.
I actually haven't seen anything other than red ones since then. The green would look great with one of your fastech modules in it!
You could always send the red pieces to Mrcrouse for a custom green anodizing job.
Mine came apart very easily; I took mine apart in the car before I even left the parking lot.
They have obviously updated them to the "pain in the butt" version. Honestly, I thought I might actually break one of the strap wrenches. I did not try heating it though as I didn't want to chance messing the host up. I can easily see someone ruining theirs trying to get the head off. The threads are actually completely covered with glue and not just some tack spot of it. Fair warning has been given.
I believe Harbor F sells some strap wrenches pretty cheap and they are really ar geat tool to have for lots of things.
I forgot that they are also now black instead of grey. Looks very sharp with the red trim. MUCH better looking in person as BTG's pics show.
They make different output ones that use the same host so this would likely be an 80 lumen.
They also make ones that use a couple AA with the same look that would probably be easier to put a module in.
I'll see what Walmart has on this one as I have to go there tomorrow (Picked up the wrong curling iron for my wife) but both of those cost about $16 on Amazon if you get the lowest powered ones. They look like plastic in the pics but are all aluminum and great finish.
I had to order a new black ink cartridge and had enough money in my Amazon visa in money earned to get the CT10 for free Won't see it until Tuesday probably.
Thanks, glad you like it, this one has turned out to be one of my favorites!
Yes, but not real well during the day, or a well lit room, but if you look parallel to the beam you can see the beam.
In a lower light situation, the beam shows up beautifully; this is one of my favorite wavelengths/diodes.
The first two beam shots that I took, were taken in my barn during the day with the shades down, and a little fog.
The next one (close up) was taken with the light on. All photos were taken with my phone camera, so no long shutter times, what you see is what it is.
Didn't realize you had to get naked to see the beam
I do have one of each of the units in my pics above but haven't done anything with them yet. All my time has gone to the vape mod stuff lately trying to figure out things.
I'll take a pic of the one I was inspired to build and toss it in here. I built it a couple weeks after my last post in this thread if I remember correctly. I haven't done anything yet with that other skinnier style one shown in the pic a few posts up.
I just show this because I took the original battery adapter and rewired it for 3 10440 in parallel just for fun and it will work fine although what I actually use is a single genuine 18490 AW/IMR cell with spacer to power it. I can't find the piece of paper that has the info. on it right now but I'm pretty sure it is an Oclaro 700mW although it may be the Mits 500mW. Know the output is over 800mW either way.
Hey Pete, I just noticed the new photos, very nice. The Coleman looks really good in black; better than I thought it would! I definitely like the shorter version of these the best.
I really like those LPF logo focus adapters, wish I had bought some back when they were available.
I see you went with the original battery holder; if you do decide to go with an 18490/18500 battery, and need a spacer to fit, I'll make one up for you.
:gj: I'd give you some rep, but I must spread some around first.
Actually I did go with the 18490 with spacer. Sorry if the pic made it confusing. I just rewired that battery holder for parallel cells for something to do. Thanks for the offer. All good. The skinny version has little room in the head section and I wouldn't recommend it as a host in comparison.
On a side note if you want to see the greatest submarine movie watch the uncut version of Das Boot (you can see it in one of the pics). There are a few different versions but it's the 5 hour one you want.
