Seems like a nifty little gizmo to take to a party but not one for the serious music maker. I wouldn't have had one in my studio except to play around with and maybe sample for some cheesy riffs. Casio has not traditionally been known for serious music equipment. Akai? Different story!

heh!! i use an akai apc40 for production (sort of) but much much more for live sets, and was over the moon when i realized how flawlessly it works with pangolin and mamba.

MIDI controllers as LaserShow controllers FTW
 
Hmmm, I never even thought of whether they'd be compatible. How does the MIDI control the lasers?

I'm pretty sure laser show software usually has support for all kinds of HIDs as it can be a pain to control theater and show lighting with a keyboard lol. The last time I used lighting control software it had support for all kinds of HID protocols, and one of these big slider boards was connected to the computer through MIDI.
 
I have used one of those big slider boards, and it had midi control for syncing but I was just shown it and told, "There you go, do some lighting stuff for this band. They're on in 2 minutes, good luck"! Talk about manual control on the fly!

I suppose midi is just 1-127 on 15 channels with a command designator so what it's controlling shouldn't matter.

Playing light with a keyboard? That'd be cool. Where's Jean-Michelle Jarr when you need him? (if you need him!).

My friend has a electronic drum kit and I set him up with an LED light that changes colors based on what drum he hits. The drums are plugged into a computer via a USB to Midi cable. The midi notes are mapped to the notes for my DMX board. They run scenes on the board that make the light change colors based on the drum he hits

True, and I bet they get sales from that very cool ad, but I'm still betting it'll disappoint as a serious piece of studio kit. Even as a trigger or controller. Maybe it'll do laser shows though... Hmmm...
