Recently I had the pleasure of purchasing a 405nm <10mW blu ray laser from Milos. The shipping was fast, I ordered it Friday and got it in the mail this morning at my job.

After some lasering in my cube here, I have to say that 405nm is the oddest beam I've ever seen. My eyes have a tough time focusing on the dot at any distance over a meter. The beam seems a bit fat (5mm+), although I know this is a direct diode laser, which delivers fat oblong beams.

Overall, the build quality is good, the laser has a solid feel to it. And the rotary switch is way cool, I can adjust the beam strength somewhat and has an always-on feature.

Overall, my first impression is good laser for the money. And the fast shipping is a bonus.

I also received the crystal souvenir from NYC, for my flourescing pleasure.

If I can figure out how to take pics, I'll get some on here. :D

Nice! Milos knows his stuff, thats for sure. Your bound to get a awesome product.

And man, you just got me even more hyped about my violet laser soon to arrive. ;D

More stuff I noticed:

The laser has an external focal point, much like a WL Pulsar. The point of greatest convergence seems to be at about 1.25 meters or so.

The wifey absolutely loves the violet beam. ;) She likes it even better than 532nm green!

Overall, I am impressed with the laser, and find the 405nm beam utterly fascinating. I'd recommend this laser to other LPF members for sure. :)

You gotta love 405. It has characteristics unlike the red or green beams.
In summer, look at night for flowers, rocks and bugs that light up. There's a world of fun out there with that laser.

Mike

Luckily for me, we got flowers and bugs all year round here. Time for me to start shootin'.

I've spent the whole evening so far comparing this laser to my 532nm greenie and my AN635. The 405nm beam seems so much different. When defocused with a convex lens, the wavelength is short enough to fluoresce the security strips in currency.

I just found out this laser is focusable as well (duh...RTFM). So the external focus can be changed to suit my needs!

Cool. the ones Milos make look very good. He does quality work. What I noticed about the blu-ray dot is if you look at it from a certain distance it changes as you move closer or further. For example hold it and point it at something a couple feet away, then lean forward and back slowly. At a certain distance it will look something like a flower, almost like it's some wacky TEM mode. Shining it on white paper looks the best, wish it always looked like that.

And here's the pics! They don't do this laser justice - my photo taking skills are well below average.

Obligatory beamshot - bask in its violet goodness!

Thanks for the review Crossfire. Nice to see it being appreciated by another laser freak like me :-))).
I will have more to offer next week guys.

cheers

I also have a hard time seeing the spot at a a few feet. It looks like my eyes are out of focus when i look at it. Also when i wave it around, it looks like a 1 inch thick trail on a white wall, but looks normal when it passes over certain paper or colored objects. On white paper it floureses blue and looks like a regular small dot. Its pretty weird.

Yeah, just hang up a peice of white paper across your room and focus it on that. The dot is almost like its floating above the wall. 405nm is strange.....but sooo coool!

I want a Milos laser pretty bad, I just don't have the $160+ to drop on it :(

Welcome to the Miloš Blu-Ray fan club Crossfire!

I agree it's a great laser and a really eerie light wavelength. This afternoon Lorgar gave me some glow-in-the-dark paint to see how 405nm will react with it. If it's anything like my luminous watch hands, it should go crazy. I'll try to post a vid next week sometime. Should be great fun at Halloween! [smiley=evil.gif]

Have fun hunting for florescent flowers!

Cheers, CC

Just a quick note - my Miloš Blu-Ray loves the rechargeable 9V from DX.

I am certainly using this bad boy on Halloween. 8-)

glad its still working as it should! I'm thinking of posting another sale thread soon.., got few more 15mW-21mW units ready.
