Temperature Shots of 1.3mw beam

Few shots of the beam temp at bout 12 inchs away.
Ones a Spyder III on high power-Fresh Batt=363 Degrees... Hot but not Scorching..
My newest addition a 1.3W I got from RHD = 670+..... Now thats hot..:eg:
Havent seen many post about beam temps.. so I thought Id share... Is 670 F really that hot compared to others? IDK...

I think what SLP is talking about is the the temperature of the beam on a surface. Thats a temp gun in the photos ;)
 
ya shot the beam directly into the temp gun..
At that temp, surprized it didnt melt the sensor or something.
Its rated for up to 716F but its not meant for lasers... idk...
It still works, no damage on it. Gunna see what 1.6 and a 1.7 measure up to when I get them in a few days.
 
Man, I wish I had a temp gun - that would be tons of fun to experiment with!
 
ya it had a laser on it for pointing at what your temping, ripped it out as soon as I bought it. PPL keep playing with the laser more than using the gun.. its good for checking temps in areas you dont wanna be around...(oilfield drilling)... Comes in real handy.. the prices come way down on them seen them from 35-65US. Depending on what range of temps it can handle..

@SLP Im not sure that those guns were built to take direct exposure.

Me either.. Its a old.. had it awhile.. it survived though.. with out a scratch to.. thats making me wonder.. wtf is the sensor pad made off...
Gunna be looking into that.. Didnt even feel warm to the touch afterwards to

The sensor is behind a germanium/silicon/gallium arsenide or similar lens/window that filters all but mid IR light. It seems to me like you're just heating up that window, and the sensor is reading the window's temp.
