TechLasers - My opinion so far

So TechLasers gave me an RMA and told me to ship the laser back to them and that they'd ship a new one to me with better packaging. Also, they said that they would ship the batteries and goggles that I ordered as well.
So, I guess this is ok. Better response than what I was expecting.

divdiv, happy 10th post!
I hope you get a good one,
just remember that the MTTF advertised by TechLasers on these knockoffs is 1/16, and the warranty is 1/2 of what a more reputable company would give you for an even lower price than TechLasers.

Again, keep us posted (LOL@me I made a punny)
and I hope you end up with a great laser!

Yay! I'm ten posts old.
So I've already ordered a unit from Optotronics. My CC actually extends all warranties by 1 year. And my I've spoken to a few people at dispute resolutions VISA, and they seem pretty confident that I can get what I want or send it back without too much trouble. And the best thing is that they don't laugh when you tell them you spent 1000 dollars on a laser pointer. I guess it's their job to not laugh at customers strange purchases. They probably kept putting me on hold for a minute at a time so that they could get their laughs in and then get back to me.

Probably so. LOL
What did you order from Optotronics?

And an RPL-300 with tail cap
I am actually borrowing a pair of glasses from a laser lab. I don't have them on hand, but I'll post the specs (in the proper forum) because I'm not sure how adequate these glasses are. They cost $500 apparently, and cover somewhere around 130 nM to 532 nM.

Most companies won't ship batteries because they would be classed as loose and therefore dangerous. You are only supposed to ship batteries if properly packed in retail packaging. And the obvious one is that it saves them money! ;D

Well I ordered 5 batteries from Techlasers. They didn't mind taking my money, and then not shipping them. Although they have since said that they are on the way. Somehow I wonder if they will actually arrive.

I think you made a good choice with Optotronics, I have not ever seen anyone dissatisfied with them, and will probably try them out later this year.

I try and stay away from Techlasers, because there is some apparently significant fraud on their website, claiming some of their products to be the same as those sold on other websites when in fact they ARENT.

I also try and stay away from WL because I ended up having to RMA my laser about 4 times before I finally gave up...its really hit and miss. Im sure they pump out some excellent lasers once in a while.

Well, at this point in time, TechLasers has agreed to take my laser back and give me a refund. They also said that I could keep the batteries and safety glasses for free, when they get here, as a consolation. Although they mention that I should not expect to get them soon, since they sent them by EMS. In any case, the last few emails with their customer support have been very reasonable and considerate. They seem willing to improve and accept the responsibility for what went wrong in the transaction.
