Tactical 35W HID Laser Flashlight

Nice review!

I'm interested in high power flashlights but never got into researching it. I would like one for below $300 and I'm curious what you guys think of WL Torch? I don't mind that it only lasts 15min. Other than that, why is this battery better than Torch?

Torch seems much smaller and its 100W 4000 lumens.
Any comparable product to this? I hate to buy from WL.

Hey Milos,

The WL torch is kind of cool, but the 15 minute claim is actually false. It won't last for more than 10 minutes.

It uses 12x 2/3A Ni-Hm 1500mAH batteries. 1.2v x 1500mAH = 1.8WHr's per cell. 1.8x12 = 21.6 Watt hours for the battery pack.

The bulb is a 100W Osram 12v bulb, but it is being overdriven to 14.4V or 120W's. 120W's / 21.6 = .18hrs or 10.8 minutes. Because the Ni-Hm's are being drained at such a high discharge rate the run time is going to be about 10% lower than this. So realistically your looking at about under 10 minutes.

So 4000 lumens for 9 minutes or 2800 lumens for 70-90 minutes? ;)

I have to admit that I never really got too into it, and never did real research.
Its still possible to find something in Torch size, but a bit more efficient for <S300? i assume?
 
Comparing HID arc to fillament bulbs is apples and oranges. HID is more efficient and reflector configuration plays an important part in "throw".

absolutely agree. Thanks all for directing me in the right direction. How are you supposed to know how well it focuses, I mean I can read about it and larger diameter will be more capable of course. But I prefer to read reviews still.

. Now i just need to decide 24W small size which is the size i want, or 35W gigant ? !!

I only wish it was a bit smaller. I like 24W size but it lacks in focusing abilities and power output of course.
If they made 24W size version with same focus abilities and power as 35W but lets say 30 min battery life, I'd pay $200.

I know.. picky, .picky..:-)

The 24 watt is a nice size but has too much spill for me. They are also working on a flicker problem and the next realese should be super -- I hope. I traded my 24 for a 35.

Mike let me remind you that the flicker problem was unique to the light you received. Something funky happened to it. In all of the other 24W's we have tested (including my personal 24W) the flickering only lasts 2-5 seconds, and then it begins to warm up and stays at full brightness without flickering. We spoke to the company regarding this issue, and they are currently in the process of testing new HID bulbs, that shouldn't flicker at all. That's why for now, we say that it is out of stock. We can still sell a 24W, just know that it will flicker in the first 2-5 seconds.

Also regarding the WL Torch. I don't know why they claim that its the brightest flashlight in the world. Take a look at CPF, there are handheld flashlights that approach or even break the 15,000 lumen mark.
 
Dude this is really a good flashlight!! But i think the O-ring need to be larger. I think it's too thin.
 
A 12V ballast and 35W bulb costs $25. How can I justify paying someone $200 for an enclosure?

I'm in the wrong business...
