Am I the only one who doesn't like the way this heatsink looks? I'm referring to the tapered front end. You can see it in the stainless steel host here:

Notice how the taper creates a large "groove" between itself and the host. It looks like a good way to accumulate dirt. The heatsink for this host should be flat-faced, not tapered. The heatsink also seems to be recessed too far into the host.

Am I missing something as to why it's set up like this? Really tempted to put one of those new 170mW 638nm Opnext diodes in a SS host, but hate that heatsink.

I thought it look cool. I have 2 of them:

One with one of DTR's Oclaro 700mW 638nm and the other with a one of DTR's 12X S06J. I got an extended length focusing ring for each and I like the look and feel of both.

The other is one of Flaminpyro's SH-032 host & a DTR PLP520-B1 520nm module with one of his custom focus rings which I love!

I will do a write up on those 3 in about a week, haven't so far because I've been working on my Star Trek next generation red phaser mod:

Now that's that's pretty much done (still have some tweaking to do on it) I have to go away for the week. So all those will be written about soon.

So far the SL hosts with the recessed extended heatsink hasn't collected dirt but they are still pretty new.

Send a message to them. Thats really strange you might loose a bit of heat dissipation from that.

Does anyone know the exact length of the copper heat sink pictured in the OP? Its Survival Laser's medium sized extended length heat sink.

Thank you.
