Heat one of the pins with the iron and then cut it off near the chip when the solder melts. Cut off the other
one the same way. Otherwise if you try to cut it cold, the pad could come up off the board. Then just
leave the rest of the chip on the board. It will be completely disabled without those 2 pins.

how do you get the original bulb/innards out of the host, mine docent want to unscrew like most flashlights.
 
If I ever build a laser, I will beyond a doubt start here. The price and WL meets my criteria. And where do you get the batteries?
 
Do you push the heat sink through the crown end? How do you know when you have pushed it in enough? I guess the wires jus curl up in between the diode and the driver somehow?
 
lukily I bought 2, I think i messed the driver board with sloppy soldering/handling and had trouble disabling the second chip my nippers are not fine enough to cut those legs.
anyway i had to beat the heatsink and now i'm gonna have hell getting it back out, hopefully I can save the diode or haven't ruined it yet.
how can I check the diode by itself?
 
Only if you have a current mode variable power supply and know how to use it. Start off at 0mA and raise
the current slowly and carefully to 150mA. You might want to practice on a few silicon diodes before
trying it with the laser diode to make sure your power supply is up to the task.
 
oh oh, before you answered i hooked up the laser diode direct to the battery to see if it would light, it does, don't know how bright normal is but i would say this was very dim, did i screw them up?
I'm gonna have to order new drivers as it is, I pulled up a trace on the second one , don't know if that is why but my second build doesn't work either.

You saying even though it lights I probably ruined them, it was a 14??? Whatever batt showing at 3.8v
 
for the second chip, you can just heat it up and pop it off, pull it off with pliers, pop it off with a screwdriver- doesn't matter.

LOL, Yeah I wasn't confident when doing what little soldering needed to be done and and handled and resolderd too much, fiddled and move the attached wires too much and it broke off, had to resolder that, a trace lifted on one when i ripped the chip off, on the other driver, part of the board came when i ripped it off.
I soldered the spring on and the joint popped when I pushed on the spring because i didn't solder it to sit flush. A comedy of errors and ineptness.
Anyway i have reordered everything and i'll give it another go in a week or so.
