Super Beast Green

I really wish I could do that and thanks for the suggestion.
I'm fairly new here and I don't really have any people I know or trust. Plus I have nothing to offer them in return, excepting money of course... which is not exactly my strong point, hence me buying cheap green lasers.

Catch 22. :tinfoil:

Edit: Also the #100 and the normal 006 look exactly the same, which could turn into quite a lucrative enterprise for the less honest individuals. So I would need to find someone I can REALLY trust. Sniff.

They have a different sticker between the two but that may not be much but it is something.

I would have offered to do it but I don't feel my post count or rep is high enough for me to be a 'trustable' member of the forums.
I totally appreciate your gesture. :yh:
If someone has ever baked you something but couldnt help eating it, yet you still feel totally special even if you dont get the brownies.. well thank you!

Thank you for the info, I did not know this.
Tsk I thought they all were stated 5mw.

Let's see what we can do for you, OK ?
Words cannot explain. Everyone is so wonderful on these forums.
Thank you so so so very much.

Oh and if any of you ever come to Cape Town, South Africa (relatively unlikely, I know) give me a shout and I will be more than happy to help with advice for your visit. This goes out to anyone.

any pointers on getting more out of a super 100? raising the setting of the potentiometer only results in no function. i bought this hoping for something that would be irritating on the skin and a deterrent to animals. it reminds me more of an l.e.d. with a lens on it.. the dot isn't any smaller than the lens, the ray is barely visible in the dark. it's a ways away from leaving a mark on electrical tape or anything else.

someone absconded with my fluke so i don't have much facility for calibrating it or anything at present :/

If you want a handheld laser that will irritate skin on moving animals from a distance you might want to stop wasting your money. You would need a crazy powerful laser for that as even a 2000mW 445nm would be hardly effective at a distance on a moving target.

Its also just a horrible idea all around...A laser capable of what your talking about would cost ALOT of money and insanely dangerous.

Edit: Messing with the pot will not get you much if anything...nothing like you are describing

people have reported that <5mw specced (though often around 20mw) 405nms are irritating to the skin. i personally consider this less dangerous than shooting them with an air rifle or other predominant methods of pest removal. if the subject were mobile, they wouldn't be a pest. this is for a noisy bird that likes to sit in a nearby tree (there is no nest et c. in the tree).

thanks for the information on ineffectual potentiometer tweaking :)

Well usually birds freak out when a green laser is shined around them, no need for something to irritate its skin (which you wont be able to, it has feathers blocking its skin).

If you have a good one of these, protect it.

I have my third one on order now. I liked my first one so much, that I ordered a second one. But now a third one is required.

After removing the second one from the packaging, I set it on the kitchen counter. While my back was turned for 10 seconds, one of our several cats was impatient to be fed and wanted to get my attention, so she flicked the #100 Beast off the counter onto the hard floor.

I never even got to test it before the cat destroyed it.

Following the cat-attack, it started up with a very tiny, very dim dot. Then, it slowly worked it's way up to maybe 30 mW (guessing) when it had warmed up. OK, not bad.

But after a couple of cycles of this, it died, It is scrap parts now.

Cats.....

I'd give him another day or two and then send him another email. He's usually pretty good about getting back to people.

I don't know if anyone else has been on his store lately, but as of (I think) two days ago, a 300# adjustable green laser has just gone up for sale. I did just buy a 100# SB though ;) How challenging is it to get to the adjuster? I'm not bent on burning things... But if it is right there in front of me... Why not?

It's pretty easy. One of mine got broken when a cat knocked it off the counter onto a hard floor, so I took it apart and poked around. The focus adjuster was a knurled black tube holding the lens, under the front cap. It was glued, but it was not hard to break the glue and make it turn by brute force. After doing that, it turned smoothly.

I have no clue whether turning that tube is actually safe or effective, since the unit was already broken before I took it apart.

The method that Shadowspawn describes will allow you to focus the beam. Do not attempt to pot mod this laser

So really are they worth it? also can you pot mod em? if so i will buy 1, pot mod it, replace the lens and viola! probably over 120mw

But the problem is customs, how do they arrive, whats on the customs declaration? if its like flashlight sample or something than that will be alright

last night I tried, and this superbeast - with the pot turned up about an eighth of a turn - burned thru a thin plastic bag in about a second or so...

love this laser!
