Super Beast Green

Ok after testing a few different batteries I found as we all know batteries make a big difference. With the battery that came with it I found the origonal beast became stable at 40mw and the 100 became stable at 83mw with the rechargeable that I have been using the original I got 55mw and 97mw stable finally with a fresh charged battery I measured 83mw and 118mw stable.

Just measured the 100 through my goggles and got about 14mw of ir hell yea+ 1 for that

Hey, treetrimmerguy1977, those arctic goggles may or may not work w/ 532nm and are VERY unlikely to block IR (IR output seems nice and low though). The older arctic goggles, like the ones that I got, DO NOT WORK for 532nm.. from what I understand the new ones actually do attenuate 532nm. Just be advised, and safe.

And don't forget about the Super Beast #005. That thread hasn't gotten the attention that this one has.. but that thing seems to be as powerful as the 006 and is significantly easier to fit in your pocket. You'll have to help me out. I'm a newby. Can you explain the readings a little? Would you call the #100 a 83mw, or a 118mw laser. (I know some of it is ir)

he got a reading of 83mW for the regular superbeast and a reading of 118mW for the #100 using fresh li-ion batts
 
Just got my super beat today. Came with a nice panasonic 3.0v Primary. Just checking I'm supposed to put the battery in negative side in first right? (The flat side to the spring) my first PCL style host :P

Hey.. thought someone answered that one already. Negative side first, yes. Positive should touch the tail cap. Get you some 3.7V RCR123As for extra power. Sorry for late response.. enjoy the Beast!

I bought ultrafire 3.6v 880mAh protected batts w/charger.
Does mAh refer to how long the batteries hold a charge at high voltage?
I'm just curious if I could be getting a lot more power out of my #100

I didn't look it up. was just hoping it was kind of self explanatory, mAh are measuring a certain amount of flow for a certain amount of time.

By the way bobby. I just popped a dark red balloon with the #100, but I'm having a hard time popping a light pink one.

Gotta find balloons! Did you use Sharpie, or do it straight?

BTW, I edited my post above -- they are 900mAh batteries (2800mAh is the 18650s I was just ordering!) :whistle:

basically think of mAh as: an 800mAh battery(cell) can output 800mA for ONE hour. or, for example 400mAh for TWO hours, ect.. (in a perfect world anyway).

Try putting a black dot on your pink balloon and aim for that. Most likely your pink balloon is reflecting to much light.. and not absorbing enough to get the spot hot.

If you can pop a red balloon, then you should be able to pop any colored balloon if you sharpie it.

I'm definitely ordering a Super Beast #100!!

I had looked all over for a sharpie, but couldn't find one.

When I popped the balloon, it wasn't as easy as popping one with my WL arctic.
I put both the laser and the balloon on the table so I could hold them perfectly still, and the aperture of the laser was only about 4 inches from the balloon.
It did manage to pop it in less than a second though, and I was really impressed.

My dad and I own a tree business together, and we've used green lasers for years now for giving job estimates. It's so much better to be able to point out precise places on limbs that are up to 75 feet high where the tree needs to be trimmed. (in stead of trying to point with our fingers) We've always used a 5mw green one that can be ordered from an arborist catalog until recently he dropped it on a sidewalk.
Our friend had recently showed us his photonic disrupter from Wickedlasers, and it blew our mind. (an old model they used to carry)
We started searching the internet for a laser that was stronger than 5mw, and came across Dinodirect. He bought a 200mw greenie, and just for fun I bought their 1 watt 445nm. This is how I got involved in this hobby.
We both got our dino lasers in the mail, and they're pretty nice. He's tried his out, and the dot on the tree is extremely visible, even in direct sunlight.
He's apprehensive about using it though, because if he's shining it at a tree, and it misses, and goes into someone's window, it could blind someone.
He's been looking around for something that's closer to 50mw for a cheap price, so I told him about the superbeast. I told him that if he only uses a 3.0v cr123 he will have close to 55mw. I think I've talked him into it, and he might order one tonight. (lol, if he likes the way it performs, I may be able to talk him into giving me his 200mw greenie from Dinodirect=) It would be a nice addition to my new and growing collection. hahaha

your #100 is likely brighter than his dinodirect 200mW. The ratings on those cheap chinese lasers usually are a joke at best. Some claim upwards of 500mW and only put out 75mW on a good day.

Yeah, we both ordered the dinodirect lasers before doing any research on the company. I got sick to my stomach later that night when I started reading their forum. There are so many people getting ripped off by that site.

I think we both got lucky though. Our lasers seem pretty decent. I've held the dino beam next to my arctic, and it is identical in strength.
I thought my dino had a really short duty cycle of 15 seconds, but yesterday I timed it. It stayed constant for 37 seconds before dimming down. (Of course the arctic kicks it's @$$ when it comes to duty cycle)

I'm not sure about my dads 200mw greenie as for where it would stand on an LMP, but it's brighter than my #100. At least I think it was.
I think it would be interesting to hold them side by side to see. I'll check it out next time I'm over there.

(I'm editing this in. You're probably right about this #100 being as bright or brighter. I can't believe this thing for $27 dollars!!!!!)

You should buy a waterproof rayfoss laser for what he does. That way it's sealed. No dirt or grime or water will get in. Chuck it in his pocket and not worry about it either.

I'm looking at rayfoss now. Good selection! (Rayfoss 1 watt blue waterproof focusable is IDENTICAL to the one I got from Dinodirect, at least the host is)

Getting 1W of 445nm is alot easier than 200mW of 532nm. Making a 50mW 445nm costs virtually the same to build as making a 1500mW 445nm so having them meet spec is not surprising. The only diodes available for 445nm are all good to over 1500mW easy, 532nm (green) on the other hand especially the cheap ones from china rarley exceed 75mW.

I think you will be surprised with a side by side comparison if your #100 is actually putting out 100mW

I'm sure you're probably right. I am extremely happy about this #100!!

And I know about how 445nm diodes are cheap, and easy to get, and that in order to make a green laser, you have to start with a different color diode, and pass it through a crystal to get it to 532nm. It's much more expensive partly because of the cost of labor, aligning the crystal and diode with the lenses is a hard process, thus more time consuming, and expensive than producing a simple 445nm laser.
