Sunburn PHR-803T - pics of the guts

That's the thing, I thought the low-range drlava flexdrive only went up to 150ma. That's why I didn't worry too much about cranking it up. Maybe it does go up to 200ma.

Apex.. check the B/S/T section before yobresal runs out of diodes:D. He is selling them fast..

When mine was turned 3/4 up, it was at 190ma, so my lava driver definitely goes past 150!!

I thought the same thing, that it topped off at 150, so I turned it up 3/4 of the way w/out a 2nd thought.. Until I was running it at that power for a while.  It seemed way too bright.  Thats when I measured it and found it was at 190ma.

I turned it down, and it's still going strong at 130ma.  
is that safe?  probably not :) Stick to 100 if you want to be safe.

If you want to know the current mA your driver was set to, you can hook a CREE LED and measure it. This is how I set the current before connecting the LD. ;) I think you pass 200mA. :o

That is a fantastic suggestion, thank you very much as I don't want to kill another diode!

I decided that I am going to rebuild this unit, but not as a blu-ray.

It will look the same, but contain an open can LG 22x dvd diode in a Meredith housing with glass lens running at 400ma on a high range drlava flexdrive. I've found that I'm still more fascinated by sheer power rather than wavelength. My goal is a pocket sized 250mw to 300mw burner. The parts have been ordered hopefully I should have this finished in a week or two.

I still have the very nice 10mw blu-ray that TheMonk built. I have plenty of fun making things glow with that.

Good thing you have a flex heat sink to accompany different size modules. ;)

The Diode used in the AA was the 8011, capable of output so much more power, PM me if you want to get more power out of it. ;)
