Why would you expect your cap to charge any more slowly than the caps in my suggested approach?

Because there's a 100k ohm resistor in series with it. It's basically an R/C time constant except it lets a LOT more current flow when it's done.

I'm having a little trouble figuring out
how these are supposed to be connected. It
looks like the unmarked holes are the
output and the marked ones the input. Just
wanted to be sure before connection or else
it could let out the smoke

Well I finally got around to testing the Diode savior boards to see what's up.

Andd I'm renaming them to fit a purpose that's better suited, since they don't actually perform as hoped with their original intention.

New name?

Hooked up to a 555 timer, played around with some values and I think I got a nice sweet spot. Tested with one of my linear drivers and it seems to work pretty well, and the board dissipates very little/no heat with the diode I tested it with.

Another potential idea for these is to use them as switches of sorts; since the gate requires a very small amount of current you could use a very small switch for high current builds. (this is theoretical)

And yes, it goes between the battery and the driver board. Putting them between the driver and the diode is not a good idea.

Thanks for the update - it's interesting as a non-electronics person to see how things don't always work out even for those that do understand the topic!
