I was dismantling some old broken dvd burners for laptops, yesterday, and in one of them, i found a very strange LD .....
Instead a common 3,6mm SmOC, there was a very small closed can red diode ..... it's 3mm dia (not 3,6) at the collar, the can is 1,8mm dia, the total lenght is 4,5mm, the can aperture is 0,7 / 0,8mm approximatively, and the window that close the can is glued outside the can, not inside.
Wondering from where the hell it can came, i never seen one of them, before ..... if i find a way for fit it in something that can act as heatsink, i want to test if it's still working ..... anyway, it was in a 8X DVD burner, so i guess it's nothing special, about the power ..... i just hope they don't start to use 3mm diodes, otherwise it can be a real problem, mounting them in any hobby host
