ablating some ink off of a cup with my ssy1 8-)
I built the ssy1 in a nice case I took from an old printer buffer, and used a aixiz 5mw diode module to make the target beam. the diode is down the barrel of the ssy1 from the back.
this set up works real well to show what im gonna hit, even if I put a lens in front and focus it down to a small dot the red laser shows the target.

Frothychimps makes mine look weak! I need more capacitance or voltage.
1100 uf at 342v.

man how many mw or should i say W is that thing??? what nm also?? nice work!! ;)

The yag is 1064nm, and the power is measured in joules. Its capable of about 2 joules output, but im not getting that much.. it comes out to be about 2 million watts. ( im getting a lot less than that), guessing about 1/4th that... 500,000 watt pulse. this is according to sams laser faq. I have no way to measure it, so this is really just a guess. one of these days, im gonna get a ktp to put in front of it and see how much green I can make.

one pulse of green :)

It'd possibly just blow it apart. It's like ingesting arsenic - you can only do it once.

yep, it would have to be a big ktp. but i bet it would be bright!

yep, I did that before I fired it the first time, I wonder if it would do better with it in? I think im putting in too much to use the q switch though, I wouldnt wanna blow it.
