Square diode?

Alright, so here is the deal. I took apart a dvd-rw drive from a gateway computer (Laptop). I pulled out the 2 diodes and they are both square with 10 pins.

My question is. How in the world do you rig a square diode up with 10 pins?

Sorry for the blurriness. I'm 99.99% sure they're diodes.

those may be them not very common theres one problem.
those are not bare yet. you have to remove the aluminum heatsinks from them.
But i suspect even when you do they will be low powered diodes.
For like 8$ you can buy a high powered red laser diode and not have to go threw this.
Another problem is if we have not seen this diode we cant tell you how to hook it up.

Generally speaking, the thicker pins are used for power into the emitter. The others are for the photodetector.

I believe they are already out of the heatsink, but they come with a weird holographic-y optic of some kind (diffraction grating?) glued on the front of the can.

They are bare (disregard the advice about removing the heatsink), and yes there really are 12-pin diode packages.

Unfortunately, you cannot use them, as there is no diode housing suitable for mounting these types of diodes.

Your only option is to get new diodes online. Tons of websites, look it up.
