@redhook and trevor: I'm not sure what you're trying to say here...?
@jbtm: Ya, good luck with that.

You should look around, it's been posted on this forum and on other sites that this diode does in fact run in single longitudinal mode up to 55mW.
W’s Laserblog
You should read more and learn the difference between longitudinal and transverse modes.
Your link validates what I'm trying to tell you. Multimode (transverse) due to many emitters.

This diode does have only one emitter.
When run at threshold, the diode is single-mode. However, the output is more of an elliptical stripe. As the current is increased, the extra "modes" become apparent. Perhaps I should take pictures...
Whoops, went on the info in that link...
-Trevor
But you are right that this diode will not produce a gaussian circle without fiber coupling or some serious correction optics.
I wish I had some time to take some threshold pictures of this diodes output.
As the power is ramped up, more "stripes" become apparent in the longitudinal direction.
I just completed my custom build of 7 445nm casio/nichia diodes from the 140 , yes 7 diodes fitted to a hand milled copper slug 20mm wide with 7 5.6mm holes drilled as 1 center and 6 surrounding with threaded ring stops.
I have a pretty effective double diffuser arrangment and a concave lens followed by a double convex.
my beam dia is about 2.5mm and mrad is unknown but at 0-10 feet this thing has set fire to the couch and 3 curtains, not too mention several spots of carpet.
my question is this- do you think I can call it the super arctic blue wicked laser??
I got a question, how many members here have canceled their orders? Or at least tried. The specs were BS, they keep wanting more money, and half the people that ordered don't even get order update emails about all these different versions they're making, or any updates from them period.

Okay I have a question.
Got my Arctic today (7/30 batch) I plugged in the charge and the light turned green. I put in the battery and it stayed green. After about 5 min I popped it into my Arctic and it seems to work fine. --- Did mine come with a fully charged battery? Does the light turn red when it's charging?
Another question... The 3 battery LED's stopped working after the first use (they were all lit) now they only flicker when I push the on button. Is this something that I could maybe fix by tightening the screws on the base?
Thanks for the help!

Well... If I don't see it... it must be BS... you can easily change my
opinion with some factual Photos of what you are claiming...

You might have gotten a bad battery.
How would a bad battery make is artic work (the diode) but not the LEDs?
