To the staff:

Would it be untoward to ask if we could get the deleted spam threads moved out of the main forums? I know that I'm not particularly active here, but I read a lot. I particularly read stuff in the less frequented sections, like gas lasers. Some of the less trafficked sections are 90% deleted spam threads, and it makes it really difficult to scan through the topics.

In the site that I admin, we have a forum called the "trash can" into which we move deleted threads in order to keep the lists clear. The trash can isn't visible to the general membership.

Either way, thanks for hearing me out. I don't mean to step on toes, just bouncing ideas your way from a very long term member.

Hello Chicxulub,

Thanks for letting us know what you think! I think it's a good idea to have something similar, honestly, I agree with you that seeing spam thread upon spam thread makes a bad first impression.

We used to be able to "hard-delete" posts and threads, but for some reason it got removed from our ability. I'll speak to Avery about adding a "Trash Can" section where such a thing can be accomplished. :yh:

I totaly agree with Chicxulub, I brought this very thing up last week in one of the vet threads.
These deleted threads really make it really hard to look through some of these forums, not to mention that it makes them look disorganized and not too professional.

Any help the mods or Admin. can provide would be appreciated by all I'm sure!

PS - Appreciate your efforts Alex!

Actually they can be hard deleted. The moderator control panel makes it a bit of a maze though. It's one of the reasons why I exclusively name spam threads "deleted" as in their title. I'm a bit busy as of right now so I'll get to it later, but if you guys don't mind letting me know some of the sub-forums that are really bad that will save me some time. :yh:

I've made something very similar to this in the staff section of the forums, I mostly use it to clean up long strings of banter posts, so that you don't see "deleted by EP" like 7 times in one thread.

Edit 2: Hap, check the staff section for "garbage thread", you'll see that's where I've been putting them :D

I got it figured out. It takes awhile to manually move them, but it's working. I'll try to get the first page of every section cleared out so it's neater for everyone :)

Good idea if the first page looks good or not makes a big difference when people look in. Lots of SPAM really looks bad.

Most if not all "deleted" spam threads should now be completely gone. If I missed a spot let me know, I wouldn't be surprised. That was a lot of threads.

I'm still working on the "off-topic" section though, won't be long ;)

This has been my concern ever since I joined but I haven't said anything about it because I was new.
In the astro forum that I've be a mod for so long, it's always been the way that as soon as a mod deletes any thread, spam or otherwise, it becomes invisible to the members and only the mods and admin can see it as deleted.
I assume it's just a matter of changing the attributes in Vbulletin by Avery but that's his call.
It certainly makes for a cleaner looking forum I can tell you.
But this solution that EP is using and suggesting is a great idea.
Once I get the hang of it all (because it's a little different from what I'm used to and I don't want to 'break' anything), it will be a great way to tidy up our forum.

Thank you, that was quick, they're looking much better now! :yh:

Good work boys!

This was a great response and I really appreciate it. Lol I remember back in the day Avery didn't want mods, but he sure did end up picking good ones!

Now, if only I could convince you all to let this ten year old member in the veteran section... :o LOL

Ahhhhhhhh! You aren't a vet! You just need 10 more posts!

You deserve to be allowed in.
I don't know how that's done though, I think Avery takes care of that.
Is that right Alex?
