SONAR II 17670 protected

I got mine to work with 17670 as well. It is basically an air tight fit though (I can hear air rushing out around the button when I load the battery :)). That being said out of the 2-pack only one of the batts fit. ::) I guess I am just gonna order more and hope for the best, but the 1800mah should be more than enough for the BR.

I am really liking the size and feel of this case, in part due to the fact that the battery is so secure there is not movement or rattling when the lasers is in use it feels very solid/pro, it is also a pretty hefty pointer. It is one of the things that agravates me on the CNI style pointer, the feel of the battery moving.

In the end, my grand plan of a protected sonar went down the drain as I was too lazy :-/ ;D to transfer the protection circuit as I was quite anxious to have it running, but it would be possible without too much hassle, just a bit of sanding and precision soldering and viola a sonar with protection, maybe another day.

i am running mine at 162ma, what are you guys running yours at?

Mine is getting 140mA, running fine till now.
I can not wait for an occasion were i will be able to pop many ballons xD

They insta-pop at short distances like 3 m...

My 17670s don't fit AT ALL in mine. I would literally have to press fit mine, even without the wrapper. I'm thinking about trying to grind the inside of the case a bit with a dremel tool, though I'm not sure it will reach far enough in to get the whole length of the interior.

For now, I'll suffice with my de-wrappered CR123A and dummy. Though, at ~140mA, battery life isn't very long, maybe 15-20 min., so I'd like to use the larger battery so I don't have to recharge nearly as often.
 
Doesn´t a cr123a battery have a capacity of about 800mAh? I do think so, because the rechargables from DX claim to be 88mAh.
(How much has a primary one then?)
1Ah does mean that it can supply an Ampere of current at its rated voltage, doesn´t it?

So let´s say you got an 750mAh battery there.

So your battery life will be around 750mA/h / 140mA=5,35h
* 85% efficiency of the flexdrive = 4,55 h. More than enough on a single cell.
If you could somehow connect them in parallel(Do some magic with wires and insulators) You would get an amazing 9,1 HOURS of BR fun.

I dunno... I thought it was strange too to get such low times. I've had the batteries for about a year and mostly used them in a 3W LED flashlight before, but who knows, maybe the capacity has decreased over time. But, yes, I've gone through 3 charges so far and I certainly don't think I've spend >13 hours playing with my pointer in the past month, plus it was only set to ~100mA up until last week.
 
The 17670's do not fit in mine. I peeled one of the battery's plastic wrapping off, sanded down the protection circuit board, and it still doesn't fit. I am going to get a 14670 from AW. If anyone wants to buy my 17670s, I'll let them go for cheap. I got these.
 
Jimmy, just peeling off the wrapper isn't good. You have to rip the protecton circuit off for the batt to fit, not to mention that you would short the battery, if you could actually get it to fit. The lead going down the side of the batt is the + lead, and that could have some explosive consequences. :) Rip everything off the cell, then there is a chance that it will fit. After this process only 1 of my 2 batts fit (airtight almost) while the other one wasn't even close.


How many batteries have you tried to get into the sonar rckstr? Did you rip the protection circuit off as well, or just without the wrapper? I say don't give up on the 17670, the capacity is really good. I have been using my sonar quite a lot since I have built it and the batteries voltage barely dropped.
 
rkcstr, how about some new batterys? They aren´t very expencive, are they?
At first i was picky about runtime, too, but now I am very happy with my cr123a primary setup.
Played quite some time with it (1 and a half hour of total runtime?) and they still work great...

I tried my other 17670, but still the same. I can force it in about halfway, but it gets very difficult to push in. Even if I could get it in all the way, I probably wouldn't be able to get it out. The protection board doesn't even have a chance to be a problem. And, this was with the even the protection circuit and tape/strip removed from the side.

As for the RCR123As, I have two new ones, but to use them, I'd have to remove the wrapper from them and I'm fine with just using my old ones, even if they have low capacity. And yes, I even have to remove the wrapper from the RCR123A and they still are kind of tight.
 
Really? must have gotten lucky then... :o

BTW when I got scared that the 17670's weren't going to fit I bought these of DX they are unprotected but they fit into the sonar case with quite some room left, I think there might even be enough space to add a protection circuit, they are also 1000 mah apparently, so runtimes should be good as well.
