Something i did not know.

I bought an 18650 battery for my laser though I had about 20 18650s lying around from laptops. I did this incase I wanted to sell my laser and give the client a brand new battery. But for testing of lasers I always use the Li-ion batteries from the laptops.
Thanks for nice addition to the forum :P

just remember that these 18650 ( iirc actually 18500 or 18600 ) are not protected, so be carefull with over/under charging them.

Also those batteries have a shelf life. If they are 4 or 5 years old they are pretty much at the end of their usefulness.

Whats the deal with the mAh though will a laptop battery work regardless of that or does it need to be above or below a certain mAh?

it will work with any mAh rating, it just holds its charge longer or shorter depending on the cells

my laptop would not hold a charge, but when i ripped apart the battery, all the 18650 batteries seem to work fine.....
i now have them scattered all throughout the house and my laptop has to stay connected to the charger because i'm too cheap to buy a new battery.
