someone tells you to "put that thing away"

I know that some of you have been yelled at by angry neighbors for using your lasers, etc. So I thought I'd ask: if someone (who is not a cop) tells you to put your laser away, would you listen to them?

For me, it would depend on whether the person is in charge of the place I am in. For example, I once brought my 35 mW greenie to a college dance back in 2009. However, an RA told me that it was "illegal" and that I should put it away. Funnily enough, the guy in charge of security was totally cool with it! Nonetheless, I did not want to defy him (the RA) because RA's can write people up for this kind of stuff.

Otherwise, it would be a matter of courtesy. If someone freaks out and starts yelling at me, then I'd simply ignore them. If they ask nicely, however, I would be more inclined to acquiesce to their requests.

Of course, if they threaten to call the police, then I would put it away. Police are generally required to respond to all calls, even if no law is being broken. In many cases, if they arrive and see nothing going on, they would just say "no big deal" and leave. Nevertheless, I'd rather that there be no record of the cops being called on me.

You will never read a headline or hear a new story about..."Thousands of laser enthusists shine lasers in a responsible ways and it did not bother anybody" But single incidents of just one stubborn laserist exercising what he thinks are his 'rights' is one of the worst things that can happen in the current climate.

People who call 911 will always put thier 'spin' on what they see/say and nothing you can say or do later will make everything OK====OK?

If they throw a crazy fit I'll turn it off & let them know they would have received the exact same result by simply asking like a sane person.

By the way my brain thanks you for using 'acquiesce'. Helps ward off the cerebral atrophy rays that radiate from much of society these days.

I don't see why anyone would have a problem with you using your laser, unless you are shining it in windows or star pointing near air traffic. In that case, I would be apt to report your A$$! I consider myself a conservative person. I believe in personal responsibility with common sense, when it comes to lasers, guns and getting behind the wheel of a large automobile.

Unfortunately, the common sense part of the equation is non existent in todays society. I know some people may think thats a harsh generalization, but their usually the worst offenders. So cry me a river.

I use my lasers in my backyard at night quite a bit and have never had a neighbor say a word to me about it. Then again, I don't do stupid things with class IV lasers either.

Honestly I would stop if anyone asked me and move on to a new area. Its better not to draw attention (both good and bad) to yourself when you have powerful lasers. If someone is freaking out about a laser its better just to stop and not risk them calling the cops or anything (they probably wouldn't tell you first) They also could lie and say it glanced off their face and get you into some deep $hit

I would think seeing that you were in some public place at a college dance (most likley inddors?) that there are many people out there who are not aware of the dangers of looking at these high powered lasers and could potentially harm their eyes because they simply werent aware of the hazards of these high powered lasers. It would be a wise choice to not shine it in any indoor public event, as you never know if it will cause someone to look at the beam from the source and damage their eye site. I would treat a high powered laser like I would with my fireworks. I simply would not ignite any firework inside a public place.

Everyone in my complex, espcally the kids love my lasers! They knock on my door and ask for "night rainbo's" the kids down stairs and their family know I don't misuse my lasers. If you use respect people and are star pionting or beam
watching, there should be no reason to get yelled at!


I gave one of the kids a 1mW keychain "parents consent obtained" so we will probly have some new members in the works! ;b

I've never been asked to stop using lasers.

If i ever was, it depends on who is is asking, how and for what reason. I generally don't point lasers at people, so its not likely they would be too annoyed. Sure, you can see them beam go into the sky and all, but i've never encountered anyone that minded.

I can imagine a situation where you take a lasers to a friends garden party or something, and they ask you not to use it because they don't want to risk any bullshit, and in such cases i'd be happy to oblige... though my friends would probably ask me to light a removed with it rather than complain

I've never had my lasers in a place where anyone even knew about them. If someone wants a laser of mine put away, I will respect their wishes, knowing that they just don't understand. - and that's ok. Not everyone can be a laser safety expert.

I suppose it all depends on where you are located. Laser beams can be legashit-magnets, or just be considered for what they actually are.

In any case, i would not want the police to come knocking on a friends door because we were playing with my lasers the night before or something like that. I don't do anything illegal, but explaining just that can take uncomfortably long.

I tend not to use my lasers in a public place, or in a place where objections may be made. I did last november at a fireworks show, but loads of people had them... if someone had of asked me to put them away, I would have.

Someone else in the Forums had this happen to them, I think they were in the Netherlands or somewhere close. Country Probably makes a huge difference in how cops react to lasers, Are from Europe or what?
