So basically I've had lasers, I can solder, I can build electronics.. but I want to take it to a new level and build a 2w blue laser burner. (or 1w/1.5w, but would prefer 2w). Are there any tutorials here, or on the web somewhere that can show me how to do this, I'm looking for a minimal cost (minimal for this type). the main road block I'm hitting is not knowing where to find all this for not too much money; that and not know exactly how to build a laser that powerful.

Thanks, help is much appreciated!

Well first off, make you have GOOD laser goggles before trying to build a 2W laser, I recommend OEM Laser systems don't rely on those cheap goggles to save you from a 2W laser.

Secondly, do you want a lab laser or a portable laser? (lab style will be cheaper, probably)

Lastly, there all lots of tutorials here just search of them. DTR has made loads of 2W builds.

Also, you said your looking for minimal cost, a 2W laser will cost AT LEAST 45$ for the diode and 55$ for the high-output lens then you still have to get a heat sink/host, module, driver (you said your good with electronics so you can make a LM317/DDL driver), and a power supply/batteries + charger.

I'm pretty new to the powerful type of lasers. I'm guessing lab is bigger. I want a at least semi-portable laser. doesn't have to be 2w, just powerful enough to burn stuff. (I'm NOT using this for destructive unsafe activities.) I'll go check out OEM I might have to wait til next pay check to start the build. I can solder, and my dad can solder extremely well, so I can always get his help at some point.

Have you seen DTR's tutorials? If not, check the link in my sig. The other links in my sig are also very helpful. Jayrob's has lots of pics too.

I've had small lasers for along time, just not big ones, That's why I want to move up, how much should a 1.w portable laser cost?

Search up survival laser, they sell complete kits with discounts for LPF members and their included goggles are good.

I'm thinking of building the compact 1.5W Stainless Steel RL-118 laser.
