SOLVED: Audio DAC problems

You've got it park Pontiac.

Can't say I didn't warn you :p

I ruined the end on my belkin trying to figur out the wiring scheme... That's why I stuck my own end on....

Holidays always get in the way heh.

Ok adapter is built. Looks like it's working since I'm not getting anything from the PJ with it plugged in. I tried playing something in LFI but got no output. Is there a setting I need to tell it to use the DAC? I'll be picking up a copy of spaghetti tomorrow.

Sounds like you got The adapter going right...
In the lfi dir there is a ezaudiodac txt file that tells you what sound cards are found and what numbers they are... Then you need to open the ini file of the same name and set the sound card number.

It detected the DAC as 2 and the ini was also set to 2 but LFI still didn't work. I did notice that Win 7 detected the card as 7.1 instead of 5.1. Wonder if I need to use the drivers that came with the card? I think I'll try Spaghetti first since I'be heard the c-media software sucks. I should hopefully have my license file tonight.

That's a bad sign... Is the red LED on the sound card flashing?

I used XP 32 with mine... You might need to mess with the channel configuration... try putting 5,6,7 and 8 in the red, green and blue lines and see if that makes a difference... also make sure you are trying to project something white...
Make sure the Laser ON option is checked too in LFI...

Another thing to try, play MAX.wav from the sticky audio DAC thread and see if you get the white dot.

Ok making some progress. I have to admit I missed the "Laser On" setting before. I played the max.wav with the DAC's sound card as my default out and got a blue-white color. It wasn't 445 blue but wasn't white either. Then I tried playing something in LFI and it looked like garbage but at least I have an output so the DAC is working at least. I think once I have my spaghetti license I'll be good to go!

edit: I checked my email after writing this post and there was my license file. I can't get any output yet and yes this time I made sure laser output was enabled ;) I have to go run some errands but hopefully I'll have everything up and running tonight.

Thanks Gary. I did all that and still don't get anything. I couldn't select 5.1 until I installed the CM drivers and since I haven't been able to get any output from the PJ. Before I installed it windows 7 saw it as a generic 7.1 channel USB card and I did get a blue-white only output from Spaghetti but it seemed only the Y galvo was running since I got a very narrow but tallish output. I'll take some screen shots and post them shortly.

Give me your IM info and I'll try and help you.

I appreciate the offer. Ended up going out to dinner with my mom and brother tonight. I'm going to try a couple quick things before crashing for the night and if they don't work I'll certainly take you up on the offer.

Alright I should have some time tomorrow or sAt am to work on it if you want

I think I figured out my problem. I didn't see the cmedia software dropped a thingy into my task bar that I needed to config. That got me all colors. It also looks like pin one in my adapter lacks continuity (oops!) which is odd since I swear every one had continuity when I checked before. I may have soldered it to the wrong pin though. That would explain why I only get one galvo running when using the DAC. Gonna pop it open and find out and fix it if needed.

Sweet. You got off easay :p Sounds like you will be DACing like a pro in no time ;)

Ok. Looks like the bad solder joint that broke and the "hidden" cmedia app were the main culprits. Now I am getting the same color issues you had. Turning off all but blue gives me blue, turning on green gives me nothing, and tuning on red gives me R+G. If you don't mind me asking what channels did you set? I have:

X: 1
Y: 2
R: 5
G: 4
B: 3
I: 6

but still get yellow when projecting an all red image. so close yet so far. Argh!
