About how long can someone touch a soldering iron to a LD's pins without damging it? I was wondering because I am trying to build a RGV labby out of a few diodes and dichros from sleds
When I do my soldering... its pretty easy if you do it properly.
How do you do it so the solder flow is instantaneous (under a single second)?
Flux it well, coat all soldered parts in flux, then tin your iron decently (solder blob) then simply connect the joint together and then touch the iron to the joint. This will work if your iron is at maximum temperature (I use a 40W Iron) and touch under a second and go. The only thing you should be picky about it the solder. I just just standard rosin flux, non-acidic. Use leaded solder.
I always pre-tin the metal/wire before soldering together. Just solder every contact before any connection is made. When iron them the solder flow is almost instantaneous.
