If you want your tips to stay clean us an appropriate Solder Sponge..
They wont melt like some other sponges...
and ALWAYS keep the tip wet with solder... the solder film will help protect
the tip...

kiyoukan is correct....
DO NOT use anything abrasive to clean the tip...

alright ill buy those sponge cleaning pads from dealextreme =]

i should buy a stand too if i can

oh btw, in the past i've had trouble soldering wires to the pin of a laser diode

how so am i suppose to keep hold of the wire to the laser diode pin and at the same time hold the soldering iron on one hand and the solder iron on the other

i am currently right now learning how to solder a circuit on a printed circuit board and i am taught to heat the component, not the solder and place the solder from the opposite side from where the iron is heating

but how would soldering a wire to a diode work?
