When you mix lye and water it get really hot.If you give it vinager it nurilizes it and gets cold again.

Acids always try to "give away" Hydrogen ions as they react with something. Lye (aka sodium hydroxide) is a base. Bases behave somewhat similarly to acids (corrosive properties) but they contain a hydroxide group (OH).
