Hi guys,

I'm noticing that pages seem to be taking a lot longer to refresh or update recently. Sometimes the page I click on doesn't load up at all and I am forced to close LPF and reopen at a later time.

Are others noticing this? Is it to do with the new server? Is there anything I can do improve this?

Thanks for reading...

Probably just your connection - not torrenting at the same time are you? Check ping times to server - sounds like it could be a latency issue - go start->(run->)cmd-> "ping icestorm.com", look at the time in ms - I get round time of 115ms. I'm in the UK and load times are normal for me.

Hey thanks, I did exactly as you decribed and got 123ms. The trouble is I have absolutely no idea what I just did! "Torrenting", what is this? Latency?

I've noticed it happen at college too but only recently.

Hmmm...

Torrenting is a method of downloading large files, which can increase latency hugely, but if you're not aware of it you aren't doing it - this isn't the problem. Latency of 123ms is fine, I'm not certain what the issue would be, because there are a huge number of factors that can affect load times. It sounds like a transient issue, I'd give it a few hours, I sometimes have periods where my internet connection drops out - UK internet can be awful sometimes.

icestorm isn't the host anymore

ICMP (ping) is disabled for laserpointerforums.com for security reasons so its not possible to ping it

very odd regarding slowness, i am not seeing an unusual load on the server

I didn't realise you weren't hosted by icestorm any more, have you gone colocated? Regardless, it still shows it isn't connection latency in general causing the issue. If you don't mind me asking, what security flaws does ICMP have? Or is it just to stop people "seeing" that the server is online and hence avoid targeting it?

im using limestonenetworks now w/ a dedicated server. icestorm i used for a VPS before and they had stopped offering dedicated (they actually used limestone for their dedicated and resold them i think )

no flaws in ICMP itself but a lot of spam bots use it for detecting sites before spamming them

Thanks guys. I guess I will simply readjust my patience settings...
