Interesting new spectrometer chip.

"Engineers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison have developed a spectrometer that is so small and simple that it could integrate with the camera of a typical cell phone without sacrificing accuracy. The device contains photodetector arrays overlaid with photonic-crystal slabs placed on top of the detector pixels, giving each pixel region a different spectral response "

A small spectrometer integrated into your phone camera would be great, especially if it was accurate enough.

Very interesting; thanks for sharing! :)

I wonder if this will work as claimed. Compact spectrometers use a sensor over 2 inches long to get that much range. If it does work and is not extremely expensive it should be a great addition to what we already have available to us.
