I am using a fiber laser, I have a heat sink for it but the collimator gets really hot before the diode. Should I build a heat sink for it or buy a new collimator?

It sounds like the collimating optic isn't appropriately coated for the wavelength of the laser. The optic should not need a heatsink and should not be getting hot enough to warrant one.
