Hello,
i have read a few threads that talk about some green lasers not having good ir filters.
therefore even though your glasses may protect you from green lasers, what about the IR damage to the eyes?
so if i have a >100mw - <150 mw green laser, should i be concerned about IR ?

i have only seen one pair that work for green and also IR. and they look kind of dark.

thanks

You buy an IR filter and put it in the laser, lol ::)

excellent answer. i like your thinking. ;D it's funny how people make things harder when there's an easy solution like yours.

I dont think that is such an easy fix.
i have not seen any ir filters available, let alone in different diameters.

no seriously, don't try to act "intelligent". he didn't make that comment for no reason. ::)

well another alternative is to buy a cheapo 5mw laser w/ an ir filter and carefully swap the filter or the laser housing

OR...
You could buy the actual filter for $10.
$10 greenies NEVER have IR filters...

I just got my two IR filters in from Nova Lasers. I just put one in my 50 mW Stantstone greeny, made my feel allott safer using it indoors.

Shipping was quick too!

I don't know of any cheap green lasers with a IR filter.

If your laser does leak IR it will diverge like a flashlight. But you're right the optical density for IR light on 532nm goggles may be low. However, you shouldn't be pointing the laser at your face even with goggles. :P You will be fine, as long as you're careful.

Can this IR filter from optronics be trimmed down to size? By which I mean are the filters glass or some sort of plastic? What adhesive should I use to install it? And should it go between the diode and the focusing lens?

there's no need to trim it as it's already so small. you can just use anything to stick it on.

I'm sorry, but I don't see where Lightfoot500 indicated he was working with a DIY LP...  :-?

My LP has a one year guarantee and *supposedly* has an IR filter. I'd prefer to play it safe - without tearing my LP apart... .

Oh and If I misunderstood you two, feel free to enlighten me... ;)
