Shopping for a friend

Hey all,

A friend of mine is looking for a laser pointer that is powerful enough to see the beam in the daylight but not able to burn. It can be any color, and cost no more than $50.

Not for be able to see the beam in day time I think you would need at least 300mw which would burn. 50mw will be really bright at night though.

Seems like the human eye perceives green more prominently. Might want to try swimminsurfer256's overspec greenies:

I was thinking of getting these as a gift too. Remember safety goggles for >5mW.

He don't want to burn with the laser. 300mW is definitely in the burning zone.

I'll second this option...

Beam in daylight is unrealistic though. On a bright sunny day, even 500mW of 532nm isn't really visible imo.

On topic you are probably better off buying one of swimmin's lasers. Either laser will more than suit your needs AND it wont cost a arm and a leg!

I meant in direct sunlight. On an overcast day, especially if it's humid, 500mW is visible.
