SF-AW210 @ ebay, advertised as 300mW

i bought i 405nm diode on ebay for 25$, they advertised with 300mW.
i don't worry about it, i payed with paypal and if the diode won't reach 300mW i'll get my money back. it's from a chinese dealer, they'll do anything to keep their good rating.

but what current is safe to pump through the diode? i think 300mW of output is a bit overestimated.

Yeah you can get 300mW's, but it won't last long...

That graph from Dave was when we were testing and pushing them...

A safer current is more like 170mA's...

This will give you about 200mW's with one of my 405-G-1 glass lens modifications...

wow from what ive heard they die too quickly at anything over 200ish... way over stated. its the 4x bluray diode right?

well, that's a pity. when it arrives i'll post them a negative feedback, that'll wake them up.
i've had that some time ago. i bought a 200W speaker amplifier, it was 2W and i posted negative feedback. they responded within 10 min. and gave me my money back.

so i think i'll get my money back.

Sure would it have been a waste of effort try ing to squieze milliwatts from bluray diode with... red ARC lens :D

See that "wiggle" in the line inside the circle? That is what is known as a "kink." In order to keep those diodes burning for the long haul, you have to keep the current BELOW the kink. For the SF-AW210 that means BELOW 185mA

You see that white block under the "SF-AW210" label? That's where they deleted my name :gun:

If they advertised it as a 12X then that's a different story...
I think you should just keep it. It should work fine at 160-170mA.

@Dave, it is more than obvious, there are even some tiny letter leftovers where your name was whitened out. Shame.

Thanks! It was at about 370mW's when I had it direct off the battery...

But I wanted it to last longer, so I put a resistor in there to limit the current, and it is now at 286mW's... :)

Smaller than my pinky finger! I added a picture or two...

I think you should just keep it. It should work fine at 160-170mA.

It is definitely worth $25. Just run it at the correct current and have a nice 165mW laser.

If you want 300mW, you're going to have to spend a lot more money and get an 8X (~$160)
