Hi, im looking into purchasing the S3 Spyder III Arctic blue laser pointer, can some one please tell me if this model has the diffraction grating built into it or does it come with removable end caps. Where is the best place to buy it ?
Many thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum!

I would suggest reading the sticky's when you have time!

The laser you are asking about does not have a built in diffraction grating but has "expanded lens caps" If you want diffraction then you will have to get it separate or buy one with the set.

I would like to say that i would not suggest buying this laser off the manufacturer. I would suggest waiting for one to pop up in the BST section. That is your best bet. Alternatively someone may have one for sale already so just post there and tell them what you want.

Enjoy the forum and REMEMBER to buy a set of safety glasses! :D

Hi jeffreythe00,
Many thanks for your reply to my question, it has helped me lots, I'm a complete beginner to lasers & I'm unsure what most things mean, I currently own a JD-850 300mW green pen & I'm enjoying it, but now I want something with more power, can you recommend a pen that is 1w in power & also has the deffraction built in to it as I'm obsessed with the amazing affects lol
Thanks

A pen build will not reach 1w in power. Or, if it does, the diode will quickly become destroyed from heat. Your 300mw pen build probably doesn't hit 300mw, but is probably still pretty powerful. Most pens (or NewWish) can fit a difraction head.

I personally do not know of any "pointers" with built in diffraction gratings on them but you can buy them seperate. Heres a simple search I did on ebay. http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_from=R...diffraction+grating&_sacat=See-All-Categories

They will work with all lasers as far as I know.

Now if you are looking for something brighter there not much brighter than green. Though the green you have is probaly not outputting more than 50mw or so.

I would suggest if you want something BRIGHT you "could" buy a 1w blue laser BUT NOT before buying the proper safety gear.

Here are some inexpensive glasses that can protect you from 445/blue light. RadiantShades for Blue and Green Lasers

Thankyou again guys much appreciated.

Would the 1w blue Sparten be a true 1w pointer ?

Cheers
