Hey guys!

I had a question.

So, I bought a router today and set it up manually through its IP address, without using the wizard. The reason for this is because the wizard would not recongnize the ethernet connection, so I did a manual setup through WI-FI. You see, I did it on a laptop and it only wanted to connect to my router through Wi-Fi, and would not recognize the ethernet connection because the laptop was connected to the router through a wireless connection.
However, I am going to use those ports on the router to connect to my PC and Xbox 360 through hardwire. Will the router work with my PC and Xbox (and recognize the broadband LAN modem connection), even though it was setup on a laptop through Wi-Fi?

Yes... If you are getting internet from your laptop using WI-FI your internet connection is set up correctly. When you plug in your pc/xbox into the ethernet ports it is just spitting out the signal which is already established to the computer.

In short... yes it will all work! -Adrian
 
Yes your xbox etc will get ip's from the router. Just make sure those devices are setup to use dhcp to obtain the network configs
 
That would automatically be done by the pc.. Not too sure about the xbox. As far as I know you can use auto-test network configs on the xbox which should be able to recognize configs and set its self up to play online. If you have any probs post the error message here and we will try help you out!!

Will it also work if someone is on the laptop using Wi-Fi while I am on my PC using ethernet? That won't interfere with the connection, will it?

Sorry, I am not very good with anything having to do with networking :P

Yes, it will still work. I've had quite a few devices using the net through my router. You might notice a slight speed decrease depending on how much bandwidth the other devices are using.
 
Yes I have... Assassins creed 2 on Xbox is awesome! As Dr_Evil correctly stated, you will be able to have many devices running wi-fi as well as all ports on your router full, running at the same time. A decrease in speed is only apparent in low end routers for network traffic, but you will see a speed difference in internet bandwidth when you start using multiple computers at the same time. I'm guessing you at least have a DSL connection, this will be sufficient for web surfing/ watching videos, If later on you want to stream videos, upload/download, have high network traffic I recommend getting a gigabit router and that should provide enough power in this situation.

Yes, it'll definitely work. Next time turn off the wifi on your laptop to get the ethernet connection to work :P

My laptop is super stubborn. I turned it off and it only wanted to look for Wi-Fi connection :P

EDIT:
I have a high-end Netgear router. It's 802.11g, and super fast even though my walls are insulated with reflective foil on the inside.
I basically live in a tin can, so I don't need to worry about getting my Wi-Fi jacked :P

EDIT2:

And I have 18mb/s Cable internet.
