RGB scanner project!

I have a q for those who have built a RGB or multi coloured scanner:

What's the most difficult part/step of building one?


If I/we know that, we can perhaps get an idea how hard the whole thing it really is.
 





i personally have not built one myself but know plenty of people who have and aligning the 3 beams to make white is one of the harder tasks.

also planning where all the parts go. lots of people go with a 2 level scanner. with lasers and optics on top and then power supplys on bottom
 
the hardest thing is the box.. by far.. getting everything together and mounted in a box is where i am right now..

How can that be hard? You can always use wood...comming from a carpenter!
 
Thats how I made my scanner with the scanpro's. I just modded my RGY! That means I have the case, and all the holes already drilled for me! It doesnt look the best, but when its going people are more interested in the laser than the casing :P
 
Hey, that's a great point!

I can also mod the scanner elements as well, not just the laser module ;D Well, that settles it. I'm going to buy a cheap eBay scanner thing then. few hundred max. I'll mod it out and build a scanner that way.

And then when the monies come in, it's RGB time!
 
i wouldnt recommend using wood. aluminum is a much better material it helps cooling and also will be a little more exact when mounting.

buy a pelican case and put everything inside it!
 
Hey this doesn't seem so hard. :D

What's the point with "scanner tuning". Does it have something to do with the angle of the beam going in?
 
You need to tune your scanner if you want to use it for projecting graphics mainly, it's not so important if It's only for beam shows.
 
it just makes your scans a lot more accurate and like diachi said its important if your doing graphics that need to be accurate.

tuning your scanner amps can be very difficult and you shouldnt do it without a lot of knowledge. there is a great write up on PL by andy (buffo) and you should read that before you even consider doing it
