I pulled a REKE-500RGB out that I had in storage for a while, plugged it in and fired it up to see the animation show, but all I got was a vertical line. Just one straight line that changes color and blinks here and there.
Anyone have any ideas how I can fix/trouble shoot this? Should I post a picture?
I can adjust the the focal point, but dont get any horizontal.
Any ideas?

Thanks

I have no experience with this stuff whatsoever, but from what I know I think your X-plane scanner has died or been disconnected. Can you open the unit and see if all the connections are sound?

Hope this helps!

Yeah, sounds like one of the galvos is dead or disconnected, or maybe one of the amps is dead. Best to open it up and take a look.

Yep- one of you galvos is not working- AFTER you make sure all four 'ends' of the wire that connects your engines to its control;er are plugged in--

swap the wires to see what happens-
your line should go horizontal - if is just the one-

If you have a bad one it may make more sense and cost less and be an easy swap to just buy an 80$ set of 30ks and replace all- IIRC we found that the REKE RGB 500 has scanners that are about 20K-- I would first take off the top- and gently press on all four connections and see if that makes the other galvo run. I am about to work on two LkPDs
and make a tutorial as these are being fixed- feel free to join it as it will be a general tutorial on finding and fixing problems on low cost PJs-
IMO its crazy to ship one back to china almost always- Lots of forum members have old sets of scanners that they prolly will never use. I got two sets that way very cheap-
If you simole reolace your entire scanset you will have less issues that replqaceing one motor- as they will require you to de-tune completely both and start from the begining to tune the pair- thus buying a mounted and tuned MATCHED set makes more sense/
unless you have tuned these before- i have seen two demos of this being done but still would rather not try myself.. It may not be easy to buy just one-

btw I have a 300mW REKE G- and it too makes a single horizontal line- same problem as your but the other engine.Post some pics-- you will get help here--
I have a good working REKE RGB 500 too== I may be selling it.. BTW (going all analog)

Thanks guys... Here is a bad picture of the problem..

So I check all 4 ends and they were all seated good, I then swapped the cables as suggested and I only had a horizontal line.

So hakzaw1, seems like that was very helpful (I learned something now, thanks!)... So seeing how I'm a noob and I'm going to attempt to fix this... What would be my next step? Where would I go to buy parts, and what parts should I buy?

"80$ set of 30ks and replace all" not sure what that is.

Thanks guys!

do not buy any parts just yet

I will join you in this thread so my REKE 300G also gets fixed as it appears WE both have the same problem- tonite I will take pics of mine to post here- step #1 is to check all four connections between the galvos and the show card--I use the eraser end of a common pencil with the PJ running and gently press on the connections and watch for a change I also make marks with red and black sharpies so i cannot get confused if i must unplug any wires-- mark both the end of the wire and where it plugs in..

looks like you forgot to water it.

Next time I take mine apart I will do the same.... if you think its needed..? (probably tomorrow)

Oh yeah- it will need to be
'apart' in order to fix of course--
you could have just joined this thread:

I am thinking that yours can be fixed with a total scan set swap out- 30k CHEAPIES WILL LIKELY BE AN INPROVEMENT but- you will need to buy a scan set for the same side yours exits the PJ- AFAIK the ONLY scanners that are 'flippable' are not yet FS as singles and will cost prolly twice what you paid for your entire REKE-

I have an on-going threrad on these 'ScannerMAX 506 Compact' (LPF search that)newest from Pangolin and an item that has already got LOTS of attention- and will be FS as singles in 3 or 4 months as ATM Pangolin is only filling orders for 100 pcs min..

sending you some invites

also plz refrain form double posting when you can(use 'edit' instead) and i will be very happy to give your rep a +5 bump IF you add your location to your personal profile-that is more important than many newcomers here realize--

Swami is one of the guys I was hoping would join our PJ fix threads-- good guy and very helpful-- knows his chit for sure--

Okay... Added location and joined the group.
Do you want to to start adding pictures to the thread you started?
LASER PROJECTOR trouble shoot/repair 101

I'll try to get clear pictures of the problem I'm having, and see if I can take some of it pulled apart.

Thanks for your help!!

As for the things I may need to order.. I may need links as I dont know what what it as of yet.

Sure jump in anytime-
I have been very busy with other things so I am behind in my plan for that thread--

got lots done this weekend (stayed off line) so soon I will post pics too-

I will look around for you on a set of PT 30K -- I have a (used) set I never (personally)used and may cut you a good deal --hak

Fixed it! Your tip of checking connection while it on (with a pencil) Did the trick. THANKS!!!!
The picture is not very good, but it was a loose connection. Cant see it well, but the wire was not sitting correct in the adapter. (I pulled the adapter out to fix it)(Not sure what that board is called)

well- last time i used my REKE 91G it was flat lined horizontal so I set it us as a Liquid sky and ran it about 5 inches off the floor--all night (both nites) but while in storage since then the other glavo has also quit- so now i have `100 mW green dot-

that one will have to wait- today I opened a LK PD2 up that is doing nothing- (except the top mirror bumps about 5 degrees on power up and again on power down.
NOTHING else is working---
and we have a second PJ same model but with a weakened green inside and the prob is NOT the green module- (great!)

pics are going up here in a few"

Good Newz brzz- glad my tip helped- now you can go to the PJ fix-it thread and help the rest of us out- one thing we can always count on when it comes to low cost PJs is a non-stop number of fixes needed-- its a trade off IMO and we win by both learning and fixing our own kits..

update to thread linked
http://laserpointerforums.com/editpost.php?do=updatepost&postid=1292219

looking like a bad amp- anyone with suggestions is more than welcome to chime in any time--

next fix is not going to be so easy as these two
