Will a 20mW 650nm laser show up in sunlight? Is it visible under direct sunlight? :thanks:

The dot probably will, but the beam won't.
Are you sure? I know the beam wont (Of course) but Raybo says it won't... Im trying to decide if im getting it. Because for my purpose, the dot needs to be visible under direct sunlight

I think he was talking about the beam.
the dot will probably show ( but I've never actually tested it).

At what distances? My 5 mW green can be seen in broad daylight, except when it gets to around ~25 feet.

It will be visible, only at small distances.
A 1mW red's dot can be seen under direct sunlight, but only at less than 1 meter of distance(~3 feet).

I need it to show at about 50-60 feet.
Will it made a HUGE difference if the wavelength is at 635nm? the brighter version of red

You can use this graph to see for yourself... looks like 635 is about ~10% brighter to the human eye than 650.

I don't know. On this graph it looks to me like 635 is 2x brighter than 650.
Someone who had a 7mW 635nm pointer said it's beam is visible at night.

According to the graph a 20mW 650nm red should be visible at about 10 feet, a 20mW 635nm at about 20 feet and a 20mW green at about 100 feet under sunlight.
At least according to me.

Why not to use a green one?

Because green is "too powerful" says my friends that airsoft with me. Even the reflection off of a white paper is too bright for them. So im getting 635 red 5mW. So even if it accidently hits someone in the eye, their blink will cause damage not enough to blind them or damage permanently. Wow i actually typed that? I have no idea how i did it:confused:

hmm.. I wouldn't fool around with direct exposure of 20mW of 650, even.

AixiZ has a decent 10mW 635 module (link), -- actualk output 6-7mW, which would likely be just as bright in appearance as 15-18 mW of 650, and quite a bit safer. I have one; it's brighter than my AtlasNova 635.

EDIT: Ok, good plan actually; 5mW of 635 will get you there with the brightness without the danger - especially if you're aiming it at faces.

That's a lot of lies hehe

5mW of green are the same power than 5mW of red, it's just brighter. They're going to get the same risk with 5mW of green than with 5mW of red, no matter what the wavelength is. And, as you're so concerned about safety, you'll see the green one faster than the red one, so you'll probably blink faster and in consequence, get a shorter exposure with a green one.

All in all, get a 5mW green pointer ;)
