I think what you were trying to say was 'regular alkaline batteries use the same electrolyte as both NiCd and NiMH, therefore all may be properly referred to as "alkaline". So to avoid further confusion, let's call only disposable alkaline batteries "alkaline".'

Am I on the same page now?

I agree, we could nit pick this to death. We know the electrolytes of each battery, but to not confuse others, lets call the batteries what they are by the types everyone is familiar with.

hmmm i was wondering, what would be the difference between these two Sanyo AAA batteries, except for the capacity? is the 1000 mAH one just like the eneloop?

i just got the eneloops and a charger. I was wondering can you charge them up to full charge since there only 75% charge right out of the package? It is a 7 hour charger so they wont get too hot. I tested the voltage from right out of the package and they were 1.24v so right around normal ni-mh, i dont know if charging them to full charge will change them or not.

(time to bring this thread back to life ;D)

what a coincidence, i got them too about 20 minutes ago (AAA). when I tested them out of the package for the voltage they were 1.36 volt, but after a few seconds in my x105 they are at 1.32 volt and now the voltage goes down slower  

btw I think you can charge them, dont think nimh is a type of battery you need to completely discharge before recharging it. I'm not sure though, maybe other people know.

In that case maybe charging them will increase voltage since they were both eneloops, maybe yours were newer than mine and even tho they have low drain the still might have quite a bit more charge than mine. Or it could be my 7year old digital multimeter, it was a really nice one tho so i think it still works fine.

NiMh has no memory effect so yep, you can charge them.

They will not charge up to an alkaline's voltage level. Even though they charge up to 1.47 volts in my Maha charger, the voltage quickly drops. But I do think it is a good idea to fully charge them before you use them to get the maximum capacity.
