Does the voltage on the eneloops compare better to alkalines than nimh (1.5 instead of about 1.2)? otherwise, i don't see why they would be better than nimh other than that they come pre-charged.

Unfortunately that kit only includes 2 AA batteries. If you search around you can find a better deal on a kit. For example Amazon has a sale on a kit which includes a charger, 8 AA and 4 AAA eneloops. But if you already have a charger I do highly recommend Battery Bob.

Dx sells 3v RC123A, (if that's what you're talking about) also enloops. I use the soshine 900's in mine, also the bty 800s are petty good in the greens.

I think you must have skipped the previous posts...Ni-MH are alkalines and if I'm not mistaken so are eneloops.

Just to clarify...regular alkaline batteries are Ni-Cd, rechargeables are Ni-Cd and Ni-MH, Ni-Cd and Ni-MH are therefore both alkalines. Eneloops are Ni-MH. Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) batteries are not alkaline.

what i meant is that since most rechargeable batteries barely put 1.2V, do the eneloops put out closer to the 1.5V you get from most non-rechargeables?

The Eneloops are the same voltage as regular nimh. I explained all the advantages of them in a previous post in this thread.

Low self discharge batteries also come in C and D sizes but they are very expensive. Thomas Distributing also sells low self discharge batteries. I have not researched the newer ones, particularly the Maha brand. However it has been reported that some of the other brands claiming a 2100ma capacity do not test any better then the Eneloops, and the Eneloops retain their capacity better over time. You can find the same information over at Candle Power Forums...just search for them.

For AA and AAA sizes I will stick with my Eneloops until they wear out, although getting some C and D sizes is tempting but I still need to research them. Anyone who has any doubts as to why I love the Eneloops should think about buying a pair and report back what you think about them. The link to Thomas Distributing follows:

That is an excellent deal for most people. Just keep in ind the charger is a dual channel charger meaning it will not charge one battery at a time...you must charge the batteries in pairs. But this is what most people do anyway..I am an odd ball ;D

I found the graphs and testing done on Eneloops by Silverfox over at Candle Power Forums. The testing was started in January 2007, and recently updated. Look at the graphs closely and compare.

The data shown should help everyone decide what to buy for Nimh batteries. As a side note, I do have a set of Sanyo 2700 Nimh batteries I am not using, but I wanted to test them, and my tests concur with his. His equipment and testing methods are much better than mine. I am using a Maha MH-C9000 for testing. It is an awesome charger.

Actually, regular alkaline cells are Zinc-Manganese Dioxide with a Potassium Hydroxide electrolyte. NiCds are another battery chemistry altogeter.

Read back over the post then. Ni-MH and Ni-Cd are both alkaline, their electrolytes are always alkaline, always Potassium Hydroxide in Ni-Cd, usually in Ni-MH though they can be different, but still alkaline.

I just re-read the thread and I must not be understanding you.

Yes, disposable alkaline cells, NiCd cells, and NiMH cells are all alkaline chemistry usually with Potassium Hydroxide as an electrolyte.

The purpose of my post was to point out that what most people refer to as ‘alkaline batteries’ are not NiCd.

Most people have been saying alkaline and then Ni-Cd and then Ni-MH and the latter 2 are alkaline. I understand what you mean but I was just trying to make it clear to some people as they sounded unsure.
